Nintendo has previously released a number of NES, SNES, and even N64 games for Nintendo Switch Online, with these gaming libraries officially named the Nintendo Classics collection. For fans who have enjoyed the existing catalog of retro titles, the upcoming addition of two more Game Boy Advance games will offer the unexpected chance to relive the adventures of two lesser-known yet still iconic heroes of retro gaming.

Switch Online Update Makes Improvement to Game Boy Advance Games

An early September 2025 update for Nintendo Switch Online introduces several big improvements to the app's Game Boy Advance catalog.

Game Boy Advance Games Coming to Nintendo Switch Online on September 25

  • Klonoa: Empire of Dreams
  • Mr. Driller 2

Beginning on September 25, 2025, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscribers will be able to jump into the throwback worlds of Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and Mr. Driller 2. Klonoa: Empire of Dreams is the fourth game in the beloved platforming adventure series and is one of several spin-off games. Unlike the mainline entries in the franchise, Empire of Dreams features fully 2D side-scrolling gameplay following a side-story to the main Klonoa console games. Mr. Driller 2 is a block-breaking puzzle game with multiple single-player modes and a two-player versus mode. Despite not being the biggest sellers on the Game Boy Advance, both Klonoa and Mr. Driller have remained beloved by fans of old-school gaming, with many now looking forward to their resurrection on Nintendo Switch Online.

Just a week before the reveal of Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and Mr. Driller 2, Nintendo also announced the release of Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch Online, which will be coming in 2026. As the Nintendo Classic library continues to expand with surprising titles, including the shocking Virtual Boy reveal, many players are keeping their fingers crossed for even more big-name retro revivals and the inclusion of smaller classic games in the future.

Despite not having the biggest impact upon their initial launch, the inclusion of games like Klonoa: Empire of Dreams and Mr. Driller 2 for Nintendo Switch Online allows both older and younger players to experience a dose of nostalgia from the old-school era of gaming. Whether the two upcoming Game Boy Advance additions are any indication of future releases for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pass remains to be seen, so interested fans may want to follow along for any future announcements on more games coming to the NSO catalog.
