Summary
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is likely to be nominated for multiple awards at The Game Awards 2025.
- The game received positive reviews in 2024 but was ineligible for The Game Awards due to its release date.
- Despite strong competition, the game's PS5 release should help keep it fresh in players' minds.
The Game Awards 2025 isn't until December 11, 2025, but Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is already an obvious choice for multiple categories at the show. The Game Awards is one of the biggest annual events in the gaming industry. Each year, millions of gamers tune in to see big world premiere reveals and find out which games take home its various awards.
The Game Awards has been a massive success and it just keeps getting bigger. However, it has also received plenty of criticism. There have been complaints about games getting snubbed at The Game Awards, as well as eyebrows raised at certain nominees, like when Elden Ring DLC was in contention for Game of the Year at the latest event. Some have also taken issue with the nomination cut-off date, as games from mid-November to the end of December are not eligible in their year of release and instead have to wait for the following year to get nominated. There are times when this has led to titles getting overlooked, but that hopefully won't happen with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released on December 9, 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Indiana Jones reviews were largely positive, with the game earning an impressive 87 overall rating on OpenCritic, making it one of the highest-rated new releases of last year. Unfortunately, its release date kept it from being eligible at The Game Awards 2024, but it should be up for awards at The Game Awards 2025. As long as it doesn't get lost in the shuffle, there are multiple categories where Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be a great fit.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Will Likely Be Nominated for Multiple Awards
It's entirely possible that games that far exceed Indiana Jones will release throughout 2025 and knock it out of contention, but I think it's an early obvious choice for a Game of the Year nomination. And even if it doesn't get a nomination for the top prize, it will potentially pick up some nominations for Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design, Best Action-Adventure Game, and certainly Best Performance for Troy Baker as Indiana Jones. Baker's performance as Indiana Jones is incredibly impressive and easily one of the most-talked about aspects of the game. Out of all the potential awards Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is nominated for at The Game Awards 2025, I think it stands the most realistic shot of winning that one.
Of course, 2025 is going to provide some seriously stiff competition for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching this fall and will likely dominate the show. Nintendo, meanwhile, is going to launch its Switch 2 console with a new 3D Super Mario expected to drop by the end of the year, which could potentially find itself dominating categories like Best Art Direction and Best Score and Music.
Marvel Rivals is another December 2024 release that will likely pick up nominations at The Game Awards 2025 in various categories.
But while it will certainly have a significant challenge ahead of it, the fact that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is coming to PS5 this year should go a long way in ensuring it's not forgotten like some other games that have been released at an awkward time for The TGAs. The Indiana Jones PS5 port should keep the game fresh in players' minds and help it receive proper recognition at The Game Awards on December 11.
