Cold Snap has added a refreshing way to replay all ARC Raiders Maps (except Stella Montis), and some of the most notoriously useless gadgets have now acquired relevance.
Find out which gadget to use to make the most out of the Cold Snap event maps, with looting strategies that will put rival Raiders into disarray, and mobility tips using one of the most hated items in the game.
Gas Grenade Trap
A Deadly Yet Undervalued Gadget
- Crafted using: 1x Gas Grenade, 1 x Wire
- Requires: In-round Crafting, Traveling Tinkerer
The Gas Grenade Trap is notorious for being unreliable when players need it the most, and above all else, practically useless in combat situations (especially in open spaces). But thanks to the Cold Snap event, players are forced to delve indoors more frequently, and that makes every building a potential death trap for Raiders.
This is a great opportunity for those players who enjoy hunting others, and another chance for the Gas Grenade Trap to shine. Players can use choke points and strategically place Gas Grenade Traps in places where players do not expect an ambush. The cloud of poisonous gas will confuse enemy Raiders, potentially scaring them away from good loot spots or cornering them. This is when players should take their chances and follow up with either a nice spray of Stitcher bullets or a well-placed Grenade.
Door Blockers
Block Every Entrance To A POI, Then Rig Everything With Traps
- Crafted using: Metal Parts, Rubber Parts
- Requires: Workshop, Utility Station I
Door Blockers are OP in Cold Snap; there's no point in denying this. There's nothing more annoying than a Barred/Blocked Door in ARC Raiders, more so if that door is preventing Raiders from avoiding Frostbite in Cold Snap. A nearly frozen player doesn't think through: Why is this door blocked? No, they will force their way in, making lots of noise, and allowing the players waiting/looting inside to prepare an ambush.
If we combine this with Gas Grenade Traps, Mines, and even Barricade Kits, players can potentially block players out of certain POIs by smartly blocking doors, then leaving a trail of vicious traps scattered behind. Even if they manage to break in without alerting a ton of ARC Enemies (and in certain POIs, with Rocketeers patrolling around, this can be lethal), they will have to deal with the traps. And with the trapper who is waiting for their moment to ambush the intruders. This Gadget's utility has greatly increased now that players are forced to fight indoors.
Lure Grenade Trap
Now They Are The Most Annoying And OP Trap
- Crafted using: Lure Grenade, Wire
- Requires: In-round Crafting, Traveling Tinkerer
Lure Grenades are one of the most ridiculously effective gadgets to lure ARC Enemies and sic'em on enemy Raiders, though it's a greatly underrated one. Now, Lure Grenade Traps follow the same principle, but they're static and require patience and strategic placement; that's why most players tagged them as useless from the get-go.
What players don't know is that Lure Traps are OP, most so in Cold Snap maps. With all Raiders needing to get inside buildings to avoid freezing to death, they are bound to enter one of the contested POIs at some point. The problem is: ARC Enemies are also on the prowl, and in great numbers. This gives trickster players the perfect chance to lay out a trap for those who enter a building with less than good intentions (more so if they are already flagged as aggressive players and matched against other Raider killers). When this device is triggered, every ARC Enemy in a wide radius will come to investigate. That includes Leapers, Rocketeers, Bastions, and the like.
Noisemakers
Cheap, Reliable, The Noise Is Hard To Ignore
- Crafted using: Speaker Component, Plastic Parts
- Requires: In-round Crafting, Traveling Tinkerer
Noisemakers are super cheap to craft, lightweight, reliable, and can be placed, picked up, and reused as many times as needed. They're the ultimate gadget, and if players are not using them, then they're making a great mistake. Laying down a Noisemaker on their way into a POI is like purchasing insurance: It's going to pay off in the long term when you least expect it.
With so many Raiders dying because other players ambush them, or they falling for the usual 'Don't Shoot' (now turn around, trust me) scheme, having a Noisemaker in the backpack at all times is no exaggeration. Plus, with the Traveling Tinkerer Skill, players can easily craft one of these using a Speaker Component and two Plastic Parts. It weighs virtually nothing (0.3 lbs) and fits into the Tactical Slots, so there's no excuse not to carry one or several. When deployed, this intruder detector will ring endlessly unless the players move away by several meters. Like the Cameras in the POIs, only louder and harder to eliminate.
Ziplines
Extra Mobility, And Getaway Artist, All-in-One
- Crafted using: Rope, Mechanical Components
- Requires: Workshop, Utility Station 2
With tons of meters of terrain to cover while exploring the Topside, the Ziplines become a necessity, even though they are annoying, hard to deploy, and expose players due to the noise they make. Now, in Cold Snap, moving around the ground level is like asking to be shot by either ARC or enemy Raiders. It's easier to move through the high ground, and also easier jump from POI to POI using the rooftops. And for that, players need Ziplines.
Now, there are lots of Ziplines already placed in every map, but putting more to use is always a good idea. Carrying around a full stack of these gadgets will ensure players can reach the prime zones of POIs (usually on the top floors) more quickly, and they also guarantee a deployable escape route if players need to make themselves scarce when enemy Raiders breach in.
