MGM+'s From just might be the most terrifying and underrated horror TV series, and the horrifying Smiley Creature is one reason why the show is so memorable. Season 1 premiered in 2022 and after the season 3 finale aired in November 2024, fans have been eager to find out the next part of the dark story. Every episode centers around people stuck in a small town with many supernatural elements. Thankfully, creator John Griffin and executive producer Jeff Pinkner recently shared that From season 4 could air at the start of 2026.

Viewers anticipate the return of favorite characters like Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) and are also curious about what monsters could be added to the creepy small town. Played by Jamie McGuire, the Smiley Creature is the stuff of nightmares, and appears to die at the end of season 2. However, there are still many questions about what happened to him, and it would be great to see a monster who is even more evil and frightening.

From Season 4 Needs An Even Better Villain Than The Smiley Creature

from tv show

If From season 4 is going to impress viewers, a memorable and dangerous monster needs to be introduced, and they have to be even creepier than The Smiley Creature. Since the main characters are terrified of creatures who are in the forest in this small town, From season 4 could introduce endless monsters. A TV series always needs to find that perfect balance between adding fresh twists and making sure the lore is consistent. However, as long as that balance is kept, there's no reason why another excellent monster can't be added to the story.

Fans are eager for answers after From season 3, including why these people end up in this town. It would be great to explore the backstory of The Smiley Creature while also adding a new villain to the mix. Unlike the small towns in most slasher movies, including Scream's Woodsboro, California and Scream 7's new location of Pine Grove, Indiana, the town in From is plagued by the supernatural. That means that anything is possible story-wise, and it would make sense if there were more monsters like the Smiley Creature. Maybe there are a few Smiley Creatures, which would make for a stunning and memorable sight, or perhaps there is a brand new evil hiding in the forest. Either way, From season 4 needs to raise the stakes and scare fans even more.

Since the classic horror movie trope of an evil grin is so effective and powerful, it's hard to imagine anything scarier than a monster who smiles at their intended victims. But given From's captivating and clever storytelling, season 4 will no doubt up the ante and creep fans out just as much as the previous three seasons.

As fans wait to hear when From season 4 will be released, the creator and producers have given some interesting interviews about what's coming next. YouTuber Emmanuel "E-Man" Noisette interviewed Jeff Pinker and John Griffin, and they shared more about the future of the show. Pinker said:

"We know the central mythology, we know how it's going to end, we know most if not all of the character journeys along the way. We purposefully leave open a lot of the discovery for ourselves and our awesome writers."

Pinker also called From "a modern day fable," and the intense world that has been created is definitely what keeps viewers excited about every episode.

Could The Smiley Creature Show Up In From Season 4?

Anything is possible on a terrifying show like From, and it seems possible that the Smiley Monster could appear in season 4. Fans debated this idea in a Reddit thread, with some believing the creature is gone and others wondering if they could come back. Since viewers have been waiting a while to see more of this sinister small town, it's hard not to hope for more of this intense, dark, and unforgettable villain.

Redditor @Saiyanjin wrote:

"dead. That's it. No fancy theory."

Redditor @tonyhwko thinks Smiley will return:

"I do think that he'll wake up and have a regular personality, don't think that he really turned into a human though."

In another Reddit thread, Redditor @Leading_Sugar3293 suggested, "In the same way Fromville replenishes people, it also replenishes the monsters."

Like the curse that is passed around in Parker Finn's 2022 debut Smile and the excellent sequel Smile 2, it's hard to forget the evil grin on the Smiley Creature's face. Whether he comes back in From season 4 or there's an even more horrifying monster, the show will no doubt keep impressing fans.
