This article contains spoilers from the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is home to fantasy creatures of all kinds, from humans and demons to elves and dwarves. Among them, the elves are prominent for their agelessness and gift of magic that separates them from even the most talented human and demon mages. Their mana reserves are immense, and mastering spells comes effortlessly compared to other races.

The titular protagonist, Frieren, is among the strongest elves in the series, despite rarely flaunting her power. She has accumulated centuries of magical knowledge, but the same is true for fellow elves, who are just as powerful, if not stronger than her. While elves may be extinct in Frieren, their kind still boasts incredibly strong elven mages.

Here are some great choices of anime to select from if you like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.

Milliarde

Her Magic Barrier Takes Forever to Break

  • Manga Appearance: Chapter 69

After Serie, Milliarde is the next elven mage that will appear in Frieren. Not much is known about her strength and abilities, but being an elven mage alone is enough to assume she has centuries of magical knowledge and experience.

Just like Frieren, Milliarde may also have an absurd amount of mana reserves. After all, Milliarde once sealed the “emperor alcohol,” Boshaft, with a magic barrier that even Frieren needed three months to dispel. It’s hard to imagine her being anything less than extraordinary.

While Frieren and Milliarde are yet to be reunited, she described Milliarde as an elven mage who loves to slack off and waste an unfathomable amount of time. This isn’t a surprise, as most elves see no issue in letting years slip by unproductively. This behavior is normal, but Milliarde once spent years of her life searching for something, but it turned out to be completely useless.

Minus

The Great Elven Witch Who Turned Towns Into Ruins

Strong evil elves also exist in Frieren, and the Great Mage Minus was one of them. Unlike Frieren and most of the elves on this list, Minus performed brutal acts against other species that earned her the title of “Witch.” She is credited with the destruction of a remote town in the Southern Countries with a single attack, leaving nothing but grisly remains. It is said that the magic spell she used was no longer under the control of humans, and its effects lingered for decades.

In addition, Minus also owned a Holy Wand Emblem like Frieren, suggesting that she possessed extraordinary magic abilities. While all of this sounds like bad news to Frieren and her party, the Great Mage Minus has been dead for years. Her killer remains unclear, but word of mouth claims that a young warrior from the same town that Minus destroyed was the one who finally ended her reign of terror.

Unfortunately, it’s unknown how and why Minus became evil, but the Frieren manga may reveal her past as well as the extent of her power in future chapters.

Monk Kraft

The Elf Who Once Saved the World

  • Manga Appearance: Chapter 24
  • Anime Appearance: Frieren Season 1 Episode 11

Elves can also appear muscular in Frieren, and Monk Kraft is the perfect example of that. He has a nice and well-trained body, probably a product of his consistent training composed of squats and the like. He joined Frieren and her party for almost half a year, camping in the middle of a snowy mountain.

So far, Monk Kraft is the only male elf that has been introduced in the story. He is way older than Frieren, and his long life has allowed him to save villages and prevent the deaths of innocent people all by himself. On top of that, Kraft once saved the world with a priest, though the exact details of his heroic deed were not recorded.

Unlike other elves, Kraft is warmer and more passionate. He is never afraid of showing emotions, which contrasts sharply with the stoicism and passiveness of his kind.

Frieren

The Demon-Killing Elf

  • Manga Appearance: Chapter 1
  • Anime Appearance: Frieren Season 1 Episode 1

Without a doubt, Frieren is one of the strongest characters with the best feats to back up her strength in the series. She is infamous as “Frieren the Slayer,” credited with killing more demons than anyone in history. She also served as the mage of the Hero Party, earning the distinction of defeating the Demon King with Himmel and the others. Plus, she is the only apprentice of the Great Mage Flamme, who showed her how to conceal mana exceptionally.

After Flamme’s death, Frieren's expertise in magic can only be compared to Serie, an elven mage who existed since the Mythical Era. From offensive and defensive magic to support magic and folk spells, Frieren has accumulated centuries of magical knowledge that allows her to deceive opponents, analyze attacks, and counter with ease.

Winning against Frieren in a solo match would be an almost impossible feat, as the elven mage’s mana output is incredibly high. Her analytical skills are also exceptional, making it difficult for anyone to counter her.

Serie

The Elven Mage Referred to as the Living Grimoire

  • Manga Appearance: Chapter 43
  • Anime Appearance: Frieren Season 1 Episode 18

Serie, otherwise known as the Living Grimoire, is widely implied to be the strongest elven mage in Frieren. Fans believe that she has more than enough power to defeat the Demon King by herself but has no intention of doing so, as she prefers to exist in a world where conflict exists.

Most human mages in the series are in awe of Serie’s power. Having existed since the Mythical Era, Serie knows every magic spell there is, whether it's offensive, defensive, support, or even ancient spells. Because of this, many applaud Serie for her contributions to magic, but there are others who treat her as an invincible monster.

If we compare Serie to Frieren, the gap between them is clear. Serie's unrestrained magical output is immeasurable, far superior to Frieren, who has lived most of her life going on a quest for magic.
