The beloved horror game Friday the 13th: The Game will reportedly make a surprising appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, despite the game’s online servers being shut down last year. Friday the 13th: The Game is a 2017 asymmetrical survival horror developed by IllFonic and published by Gun Media, based on the popular slasher franchise of the same name, featuring the iconic villain, Jason Voorhees.
It’s transpiring to be a busy year for Jason, with Universal confirming a Friday the 13th haunted house will feature in Halloween Horror Nights 2025. Inspired by the Jason Universe, the haunted house spectacle joins another exciting event for fans of the franchise that’s set to captivate SDCC attendees and horror fans alike.
The Friday The 13th Spinoff Show Casts An Important Character From The Films
The upcoming Friday the 13th prequel show has finally added a new figure to the cast, setting the stage for the origin story fans are dying to see.
Reported exclusively by IGN, a Jason Universe panel was confirmed for SDCC 2025, taking place on Friday, July 25, featuring a lengthy exploration of Jason’s history, future plans for the IP, giveaways, and exclusive first looks. The detail that caught gamers’ eyes, however, was confirmation that NECA would be unveiling its new 7.6" Ultimate Savini Action Figure, making it the very first collectible based on Friday the 13th: The Game. The SDCC announcement follows recent rumors of a new Friday the 13th game, as speculation suggested a fresh project could be in the works thanks to a new licensing agreement, and a brand-new figure releasing months after the game was shut down is teasing a comeback.
Friday the 13th: The Game Figure to Be Unveiled at San Diego Comic Con
Friday the 13th: The Game’s online servers shut down in 2024, following licensing issues with the IP’s creator, Victor Miller. After being discontinued and removed from storefronts, offline modes became the only gameplay left, and fans banded together to say goodbye. A mod, titled Friday the 13th: The Game - Resurrected, aimed to restore the online multiplayer feature through private servers, but the team received a cease and desist letter last year. Nevertheless, the SDCC announcement, combined with the new licensing agreement, has given fans of the game a shred of hope.
Friday the 13th: The Game wasn’t the only horror title to face the gauntlet, as Evil Dead: The Game was subject to delisting this year by developer Saber Interactive. The Ash Williams-led title shares the same genre with IllFonic’s gem, despite only lasting three years compared to Friday the 13th’s seven. While horror fans will be donning their hockey masks to tune into SDCC’s Jason Universe panel, keeping their fingers crossed for the game’s resurrection, Evil Dead enthusiasts can look forward to the ongoing cinematic offerings, the next being 2026’s Evil Dead Burn.
