Just several days ago, Gun Media and IllFonic put out a patch for Friday the 13th: The Game that made Camp Counselors weaker in order to increase the potency of the title's relentless killer, Jason Voorhees. Now, the publisher and developer have announced the decision to indefinitely postpone any more regular updates for the asymmetrical multiplayer survival-horror title until work has been completed on the game's dedicated servers.

According to a recent post on Friday the 13th: The Game's official forums from Gun Media's Community Lead, Daniel “ShiftySamurai” Nixon, periodic patches are going to be postponed so that the title will be updated to the latest version of the Unreal Engine. By upgrading it to this level, lots of problems that plague the game will apparently be fixed, and it will also lay the groundwork for the long-awaited dedicated servers for the game's PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. What's more is that the new version will provide better ragdoll physics and an improved all-around performance.

While it's safe to presume that many Friday the 13th: The Game fans will be happy to finally learn that dedicated servers are almost here, Gun Media and IllFonic have yet to confirm exactly when they will be available. Nevertheless, ShiftySamurai has stated that the wait could last for quite some time, with Gun Media's Community Lead stating that April is a rough estimate as to when the engine upgrade will be completed, with the dedicated servers not releasing at the same time as the engine update patch.

"We estimate that the integration of the new engine will be completed, at the earliest, sometime in April. The nature of this update means that there will be no regular patches until it is released. Upgrading the engine means touching every piece of content in the game, updating new content that is being created, and needing to retest all core features and gameplay balance to make sure they are not affected.

"The engine update patch is, however, a critical component in getting Dedicated Servers functioning on consoles, and is absolutely required for us to get there. Unfortunately, that does mean that our focus has to be on the update first - so we’ll need to wait until that’s wrapping up to start estimating the work remaining to get to Dedicated Servers, and provide you with that information."

Taking all of this into consideration, this means that all of the content listed on Friday the 13th: The Game's the road map beyond the recently released Part 5 Jason and the Pinehurst map will be delayed indeterminately, which could upset many fans. Gun Media has promised to offer open communication about the engine update's progress, but the fact that the wait for the highly anticipated Jason X skin will be much longer than before could cause some players to turn their attention away from the game altogether.
