Sony recently confirmed the existence of a next-generation PlayStation VR headset that is in the works for PS5, but that doesn't mean new games aren't still on the way for the original PSVR. Today, Sony pulled the curtain back on six new PlayStation VR games that are in active development, including a new first-person shooter game from the creators of Phantom: Covert Ops called Fracked.

Fracked is a shooter game where players find themselves fighting interdimensional beings at a mountain fracking facility. The game boasts 1:1 motion controls using PlayStation Move controllers, with players able to climb obstacles, zipline, reload their weapons, and ski all using motion controls. As far as combat goes, the developers describe the shooting as "run and cover," and say that it will feel like a true VR-only combat experience.

The developers have compared Fracked's story to films like Cliffhanger and Die Hard, but with RoboCop-style satire. Players will be able to experience the story and the unique gameplay on PS4 through PlayStation VR, but the game will also have some enhancements when played on PS5. This will include improved framerates and resolution along with faster load times. Anyone that wants to use their PlayStation VR headset on their PS5 will need to contact Sony to get their free adaptor.

Whereas Phantom: Covert Ops was an Oculus exclusive game, Fracked is a PlayStation VR exclusive. Phantom: Covert Ops was a strong showing for nDreams and so VR enthusiasts will likely want to keep Fracked on their radar.

Fracked launches summer 2021, exclusively for PS4 and PlayStation VR.
