With Foxhole's Airborne update finally arriving, players will be wondering how they can take to the skies in scout planes, fighters, and bombers. This guide will explain both how to get planes in Foxhole and how to fly, which is far from easy, especially when it comes to taking off and landing.
Should You Play as a Colonial or Warden in Foxhole?
There are two warring factions in Foxhole: the Colonials and the Wardens. You must fight for one side for the duration of the war.
How To Build A Scout Plane In Foxhole
As a solo player working without a regiment, it's much easier to focus on scout planes. Anything more advanced required facilities and lots of parts, with entire groups usually making these. Later in a war, fighters and light bombers may become available if added to public storage in the same way that tanks often are as the weeks progress.
- Colonial Scout Plane: A51 Venti "Daedalus"
- Warden Scout Plane: Luminary Mk. IV Herald
Scout planes are also the first aircraft to be unlocked in the tech tree. This should be around the second day of the war.
It's best to learn in a scout plane, as if you crash, it doesn't cost your faction as much in terms of resources and hours spent.
Resources Required For A Scout Plane
- 80 Rmats
The only material required for a scout plane is Refined Materials (Rmats). To make these, you will need to mine Components at a Component Field with a Sledgehammer. 20 Components can then be put into a Refinery to make 1 Rmat.
Component Fields are marked on the map by a white, hexagonal nut. The Refinery is a hammer icon on the map.
Where To Build A Scout Plane In Foxhole
To build a scout plane in Foxhole, look for an airfield. Not every hex has one, but those that do will have a Runway, an Aircraft Depot, and an Aircraft Hangar.
At the Aircraft Hangar, which is fairly small, equip your hammer and then inside press E and then select the scout plane. This will spawn a blueprint. Hammer the blueprint with LMB while having 80 Rmats in your inventory, and the plane will be complete after 80 hits.
Make sure to lock the plane with L immediately after building it. Ideally, you would taxi the plane out of the hangar to make room for others to build. There is enough fuel to taxi a short distance.
Foxhole: Medic Guide
Knowing how to heal in Foxhole is extremely important, even for those not looking to primarily play as a medic.
Fueling & Arming The Scout Plane
To fuel the scout plane, players can grab a can of diesel or petrol, put it in the 3 spot in their inventory, and press 3 to equip it. Then hold down LMB next to the plane to fill it up.
It's also possible to fill up next to fuel containers or fuel tankers by parking next to them. Get out and open the plane's inventory with E. In the top right, click the fuel icon, and it should slowly refuel.
- 100L Petrol/Diesel
- x3 12.7mm Machine Gun Ammo
- x4 Mini Torpedo (Warden)
- x3 Hullbreaker Surface Mine (Colonial)
Arming the scout plane is not necessary for a test flight and learning to fly. The torpedoes or mines are also not necessary if you don't have another player in the back.
How To Repair The Scout Plane In Foxhole
To repair the scout plane, simply hammer it while having Basic Materials (Bmats) in your inventory. Repairing and recovering more advanced planes is more complicated, as they have separate parts.
How To Fly Planes In Foxhole
Again, the how-to fly section will focus on the scout plane, but the controls are the same for all planes in Foxhole.
Getting Into The Aircraft
To get into a scout plane, players will need to completely empty their inventory. It will not allow you in otherwise. For other planes, however, you can have stuff in your inventory, but you must be wearing a pilot's uniform, and these aren't cheap to produce. A pilot's uniform is not required for scout planes.
To get in, press Q at the front of the plane. If you get in the passenger's seat from where mines or torpedoes are dropped, you can press Z to switch seats.
Taxiing The Aircraft
Before you can take off, you will need to taxi the plane to the runway. To do this, slowly increase the throttle using the Scroll Wheel. Set it to about 20%. You can see the throttle reading in the bottom left.
Use A and D to turn left or right.
If you need to reverse, hold Spacebar and lower the throttle with the Scroll Wheel to a negative value.
Scout planes can take off from roads, foundations, and from the sea. Most other aircraft require a runway.
How To Take Off
On the runway, put the throttle to 100% with the Scroll Wheel. After reaching max speed, press S to pitch up and take off.
Once comfortably in the air, press F to retract the landing gear. The state of the landing gear is indicated by the arrows in the top right. The throttle meter will also disappear when the landing gear is up.
How To Fly
Once in the air, flying isn't too hard. Use A and D to roll left or right, and W and S to pitch down and up.
The A rrow Keys can also be used for more precise turning without rolling the plane by using the rudder. This is more important on larger planes. You can also control the plane by holding down RMB and moving the mouse. Use LMB to shoot.
While flying with the landing gear retracted, you can use the Scroll Wheel to alter the speed. Flying at lower speeds will lower your fuel consumption, increasing the plane's range.
There is a meter for speed and altitude, with the maximum altitude being 100m.
Foxhole: New Ranks, Explained
Find out what all the new Foxhole ranks are for both Wardens and Colonials, and how they compare to the old ranks.
How To Land
Lower your landing gear with F and start to descend by holding W. Also, start lowering the throttle while lining up with the runway or another place of landing.
At around 50% throttle, touch down on the runway with W again. Throttle down to 0% and then press Spacebar to brake. You can then taxi to get off the runway.
Alternatively, holding Shift + RMB while aiming at the runway will cause you to dive to the target. This is arguably easier, but you'll still need to throttle down.
Hitting buildings or vehicles that aren't planes will cause your aircraft to explode, and you won't deal any damage. This is one of many beginner mistakes in Foxhole.

All Aircraft Controls In Foxhole
Once players have learned the order in which things need to be done, here's a handy list of all the aircraft controls in Foxhole. Some of these should be visible in the top right while in a plane. This display can be turned on or off in the settings.
- Rudder Right: Right Arrow
- Rudder Left: Left Arrow
- Pitch Up: S
- Pitch Down: W
- Roll Right: D
- Roll Left: A
- Cycle Firing Modes: Shift + F
