- Forza Horizon 5 has attracted over 40 million players since its launch, becoming one of Xbox's most successful games.
- The game's ongoing updates and high player count set a high bar for its successor.
- Despite not being a concurrent player count, Forza Horizon 5's popularity as a Game Pass title remains undeniable.
According to a new discovery, Forza Horizon 5 has seen an influx of over 40 million players since its launch in November 2021. The open-world racer is one of Xbox's most successful games ever, and while concrete sales numbers for Forza Horizon 5 haven't been disclosed by either developer Playground Games or Microsoft, it's still proving to be very popular nearly three years later.
The Forza Horizon series has established itself as somewhat of a juggernaut among the Xbox first-party stable. Every new entry in the open-world racing franchise has progressively been more successful than the last, and the same holds true for Forza Horizon 5. Released for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One in holiday 2021, Forza Horizon 5 has periodically reported staggeringly high player counts, to the point where it's the most-played Xbox first-party console exclusive released this generation so far.
Forza Horizon 5's Ongoing Updates Set a High Bar for Forza Motorsport
The wealth of updates and add-ons for Forza Horizon 5 in the years since it first launched set a high bar for the recently released Forza Motorsport.
Earlier this year, Xbox announced that Forza Horizon 5 had surpassed 37 million players in its lifetime, and according to a new finding, the racer continues to draw players into its sunny Mexico-inspired setting. Twitter user SnapBlastPlay recently posted an image of Forza Horizon 5's in-game player counter, which showed that a total of 40 million players have tried out the game since its launch, with over three million of them joining in the past five months. Considering 2024 is year three for Forza Horizon 5, the ongoing deluge of players is quite impressive.
Forza Horizon 5 Player Milestone
- 40 Million Players
It's worth distinguishing that this player count isn't concurrent, but a cumulative number of people that have booted up Forza Horizon 5 at any point since its launch. At the time of writing, Forza Horizon 5 currently sits at 8,857 concurrent players on Steam and 19th place among the Xbox Store's most-played titles. Regardless of its actual concurrent player count, however, the open-world racer's success as a Game Pass title is irrefutable, and Playground's steady cadence of content updates for Forza Horizon 5 has likely played a major role in keeping existing fans hooked and offering compelling reasons to draw in new players.
With how much of a zeitgeist Forza Horizon 5 has been for Xbox, it wouldn't be too surprising if a new entry in the Forza Horizon franchise is actively in development. Fans of the series have long requested Japan as a setting for a future Forza Horizon title, but with Playground currently chipping away at Fable, it seems unlikely that news of a potential Forza Horizon 6 could come anytime soon.
