Playground Games has announced the Back to the 90s update coming to Forza Horizon 5 this month. The upcoming nostalgia-invoking content addition brings with it four new reward cars from the 90s, themed events and races, a bevy of bug fixes and improvements, a returning fan-favorite feature, and more to Forza Horizon 5.

Widely regarded as one of the best open-world racing games in recent years, Forza Horizon 5 has seen a substantial amount of support from developer Playground Games since its November 2021 launch. New cars, game modes, features, playlists, and more are regularly added to Forza Horizon 5 by way of monthly content updates that are often themed around seasons. However, the upcoming Back to the 90s update for Forza Horizon 5 ditches October's spooky theme, and instead aims itself towards players wistful for an era long gone.

5 Things Forza Horizon 4 Does Better Than Forza Horizon 5

While Forza 5 delivered a wonderful experience to fans of the franchise, there are some things Forza Horizon 4 simply did better.

Back to the 90s will rewind the clock on Forza Horizon 5 starting October 10 with four new 90-era reward cars, namely the Aston Martin Lagonda, Subaru SVX, Toyota Soarer 2.5 GT-T, and Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R. A new 90s-themed Festival Playlist with special races, challenges, and events will be on offer, and players can search for a new VHS Collectible, unlock the 90s Cosmetic Outfit, and earn up to three new Badges. The recently added Hide and Seek game mode in Forza Horizon 5 will also get five new bespoke achievements.

Most notably, though, the Back to the 90s update will finally bring Horizon Backstage to Forza Horizon 5. This returning feature from prior Forza Horizon entries is very popular among car collectors, as it grants players the opportunity to claim reward cars that were locked behind previous Festival Playlists on a weekly basis. Six cars will be initially available through Horizon Backstage, beyond which the community will vote on one of two pairs of cars to be featured every week. Players are hyped about the inclusion of Horizon Backstage, as some of the fastest Forza Horizon 5 cars are exclusive to older Festival Playlists.

As far as Forza Horizon 5 updates go, Back to the 90s is fairly modest in terms of content. A lot of players will undoubtedly appreciate the themed events, collectibles, and cars, although Playground did miss out on the opportunity to add some popular 90s music in the same vein as Forza Horizon 5's Retrowave update.
