Once spooky season is over, most fans don't hesitate when it comes to ditching the scary Fortnitemares skins for the festive Winterfest cosmetics, and in a matter of weeks, the Battle Royale island goes from being an eerie battlefield to a cheerful training camp.
With the holidays around the corner, fans had started to wonder when Epic Games would announce the start of the 2024 Winterfest event, and the time has finally come. Winterfest starts on December 20, and it'll be live until January 7. The event goes live on a Friday, and since updates are very rarely released on days other than Tuesday or Wednesday, it's likely that it will begin at 9 AM ET, the start time for most events in Fortnite, rather than immediately after the launch of patch v33.11.

Epic Games has not confirmed the release time of the next update, but it is expected to drop on Wednesday, December 18; this claim is also supported by reliable Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR. As such, gamers can prepare themselves for downtime to begin around 2:00 AM or 4:00 AM ET and matchmaking to be disabled 30 minutes prior to this, so they aren't kicked out of the game midmatch.
Fortnite has always celebrated the holidays in December, so fans are pretty certain of what they can expect for the Winterfest 2024 event. Update v33.11 will most likely include classic Winterfest weapons such as the Snowball Launcher, a winter wonderland-like landmark, and daily presents. During Winterfest, it is tradition for Fortnite to give its fans daily gifts that they can open in the Winterfest UI tab. It is likely that there will be one or two free skins among the Winterfest presents in Fortnite, and one is usually available on December 24.
