Recently announced schedule changes confirm that the Fortnite Summer update will be released tomorrow, June 21. Chapter 5 Season 3 released its first update on June 13, introducing players to the brand-new Ride the Lightning guitar, a Metallica-themed Mythic-rarity item. It also brought back the Shield Break EMP and the Combat Assault Rifle while also adding tons of Metallica Quests to Fortnite Rocket Racing and the Battle Royale game mode.

Epic Games employees tend to take a month off in July, prompting fans to begin speculating when the next update would drop after the release of update v30.10. The sizable Summer Fest update is usually released by the end of June ahead of the big one-month break, aiming to keep players busy while the Fortnite team is resting. The upcoming Fortnite downtime schedule was recently updated, suggesting that the Summer Fest update v30.20 would come out next Tuesday, June 25, as some downtime was expected for that date.

It seems that the Summer Fest event may be pushed forward and released earlier than expected, as patch v30.20 is now coming out tomorrow, only nine days after the season's first update. Fans first figured out that a change had been made when they noticed that the Creative roadmap had been modified, now indicating that the update would be released on June 22. It's still unknown if Summer Fest will begin as soon as the update drops, but since summer started on June 20 in the Northern Hemisphere, it wouldn't be out of place for it to start so soon. However, fans should keep in mind that the update could add Summer Fest assets to the game files but only get it live next week. There are six showtimes scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, so v30.20 was probably moved up due to the upcoming Metallica concerts in Fortnite.

Players who have experienced Summer Fest before will know that the lengthy event adds brand-new summer-themed cosmetics to the Item Shop, promotes beach party Creative maps, and brings tons of new quests and rewards to Fortnite. So far, Epic Games has not mentioned the upcoming update. Nevertheless, players can be sure that more information will be revealed soon, as this is a highly-anticipated annual event. Fans should log into Fortnite this weekend to see if more information about Summer Fest is revealed and shouldn't miss out on the Metallica concert as well. It's certain to be yet another unique Fortnite experience.
