Chapter 6 of Fortnite is now here, and with it comes a variety of major changes. From new moves to a Japan-inspired map, Fortnite has begun a new era in the long-running multiplayer title. This onslaught of fresh content is already a great way to close out the year, but the beginning of 2025 is gearing up to be a big moment for the game, too. Continuing Fortnite's tradition of high-profile crossovers, Godzilla is scheduled to arrive as a playable skin in the new year.

From the overhauled map to the new Fortnite Battle Pass, Chapter 6 Season 1 is steeped in Japanese influence. Whether one is most excited about the Battle Pass rewards of original characters or crossovers from major IP, like Big Hero 6's Baymax, players have plenty of great cosmetics to look forward to. However, one of the most exciting of all is found on the bonus page of the Battle Pass with the Godzilla Evolved skin. While the skin is confirmed as a Battle Pass reward, players won't be able to access it until the beginning of 2025.

Godzilla Kicks Off Fortnite's New Year With a Monstrous Bang

Paying Homage to One of Japan's Most Iconic Franchises

Officially unlockable on January 17, 9 AM ET, players will be able to step into the shoes of the iconic kaiju and wreak havoc in matches. The Godzilla franchise has spawned a robust list of spin-offs and adaptations since the first film premiered in 1954. The character of Godzilla has permeated Japanese pop culture since its birth, which makes it a perfect skin for Chapter 6 Season 1. Thanks to the worldwide love for Godzilla, the introduction of this skin marks a huge release date in Fortnite for players to look forward to.

The Battle Pass for Chapter 6 Season 1 of Fortnite will cost players 1,000 V-Bucks, which has gone up from the usual Battle Pass price of 950 V-Bucks.

Godzilla Sets a High Bar Moving Forward

Godzilla arriving in January is a major collaboration, but it also sets a high standard for the rest of 2025 when it comes to playable skins. The many updates being made to Fortnite, like the new Kicks cosmetics, are ushering in a new era of the game, and combined with the presence of Godzilla, the rest of the year will need to match such high notes.

Furthermore, this could signal the arrival of another major movie monster on the horizon. According to reports from well-known leaker ShiinaBR, King Kong may also be coming to Fortnite sometime in the near future. This has yet to be confirmed by Epic Games, so it should be taken lightly, but this would go in line with Fortnite's Godzilla Evolved skin. The version of Godzilla being used in the Battle Pass is from the recent movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, so introducing King Kong as well may not be out of the realm of possibility.

Once the Godzilla Evolved skin becomes available on January 17, players will have to complete a series of Battle Royale quests to unlock it.

2025 Could Be a Massive Year For Fortnite

The arrival of Godzilla is big enough on its own, but if King Kong gets thrown into the mix, it could be a crossover of epic proportions. The aforementioned leak from ShiinaBR didn't specify if a potential King Kong appearance would be in the form of a skin or NPC, so only time will tell. As Fortnite continues to break records, the addition of major skins like Godzilla and potentially King Kong will only draw in more players.

After Chapter 5, it was hard to imagine Fortnite topping itself, but Epic Games continues to surprise. As rumors about Fortnite's next steps continue to pop up, it will be fascinating to see what big updates come after a crossover as large as Godzilla.
