Season OG isn't the usual Fortnite season; it took fans back in time so they could relive the Chapter 1 days but only for a limited amount of time. Updated on November 25, 2023, by Ashely Claudino: Season OG has now entered its final stage with the arrival of the Season X update, and this has led to many players wondering how long they'll have until they return to reality with a brand-new Fortnite Chapter.

When Season OG first launched, Epic Games revealed that players would be "able to progress in the OG Pass" until December 2, 2023, at 10 PM ET, but that seems to have changed. This guide has been updated with the confirmed downtime, as well as when Epic Games intends to disable matchmaking in order to start the live event.

When Does Season OG End?

Season OG started on November 3, and it was only intended to last a short while compared to other Fortnite seasons. Even though The Big Bang live event will start on December 2 at 2 PM ET, matchmaking will actually be disabled two hours prior to this. On top of this, once the event comes to an end, players will no longer be able to return to the Chapter 1 island - they'll only be able to play Creator-made islands.

Downtime will start a few hours after the event, so Fortnite Season OG will come to an end at exactly 11:30 PM ET on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

When Does Chapter 5 Season 1 Start?

The Big Bang event will mark a completely new beginning for Fortnite, which means the game will enter its fifth chapter once downtime for update v28.00 comes to an end.

If Season OG ends late into December 2, the downtime for the next season will certainly last until the following day. As it is customary, players can usually hop onto a new season early in the morning, so fans can expect Chapter 5 Season 1 to start on December 3 between 6 AM and 10 AM ET.

It's expected that the upcoming Fortnite season will bring back mechanics that were vaulted for Season OG, such as swimming and Reality Augments. However, it is impossible to know, and the game might go in a completely different direction with a full revamp.
