Rocket Racing is one of Fortnite's new games, and it gives players an experience they won't find anywhere else in the game. While Fortnite has been letting players drive cars for several seasons at this point, Rocket Racing is a mode solely dedicated to them. It's a competition that is far faster and arguably more intense than Battle Royale, so players will need a completely different strategy when they approach it. While experienced racing game players will have an edge, Rocket Racing has its own intricacies, and that knowledge can be the deciding factor in a tight race.

Rocket Racing is a part of Fortnite's ambitious project in 2023 to expand with a selection of new games, and it may be the most self-explanatory of the lot. While Battle Royale has a huge selection of weapons and items, and LEGO Fortnite has an enormous number of crafting options, Rocket Race's premise is far more simple. Each player has a car, and they need to race along a randomly chosen course as fast as possible in order to cross the checkered flag first. It's anything but an average racing game though, as its more unique mechanics are typically what decides the race's result.

Rocket Racing is All About Speed

No matter what the player from the available cars in Fortnite's Rocket Racing, their performance will be the same. One major deciding factor in races is who can make the best use of their boosts. In Rocket Racing, players can trigger speed boosts by:

  • Properly timing their launch at the starting line
  • Coming out of a drift
  • Drafting behind another racer
  • Hitting boost pads on the course
  • Manually activating a charged boost

Using boosts at the right time, or chaining them together, can give players a massive advantage in a race, so it's best to learn the intricacies of Rocket Racing's boosts quickly.

Always Be Alert in Rocket Racing

It takes more than just fast driving if players want to climb the ranks of Fortnite's Rocket Racing. Because everything in the game is happening so quickly, players need to be able to react on a dime. Hitting walls and obstacles can greatly slow down a racer, and there are some impacts that can wreck a car completely and force it to respawn, losing valuable time. Likewise, opponents can not only draft off a racer in the lead, but potentially get them turned around from a collision, ruining their lap time. The layout of a race can change in moments, so honed reactions are vital.

Rocket Racing is Best Performed in Style

In addition to showing their skills on the track, players also need a little individuality. Fortnite's Rocket Racing lets players customize their cars in order to give them some extra flair. Each car can have its body, color, decal, and wheel type chosen from what the player has unlocked. In over to earn more options, players can complete missions, buy them from the shop, or have a linked Rocket League account to share some cosmetics between the two games. Once a player has a few cosmetic options under their belt, the should be able to head into any race in style.

Rocket Racing is the most fast-paced addition to Fortnite yet, with cars boosting and flying in chaotic fashion. Thankfully, players will have plenty of time in Rocket Racing Season Zero in Fortnite to get their bearings. Once they've had some time to get used to the controls and mechanics, players should be able to rush along the racetracks with the best of them. When the game goes by so quickly, one mistake could be the difference between victory and falling to the back of the pack, although that's one reason why Fortnite's Rocket Racing is so thrilling.
