Fortnite is issuing refunds to several players and removing a Jam Track from their library after accidentally releasing a battle pass item to the in-game shop. The massively popular battle royale from Epic Games features a wide variety of methods for players to earn new items and cosmetics. Much of the game's array of cosmetics and items like Jam Tracks for Fortnite Festival are available through the in-game shop, while some are exclusive to the game's many battle passes. Now, Epic Games is walking back a mistake that saw a battle pass-exclusive item released to the shop.

Fortnite's seasonal battle passes are often a primary source for players to pick up exclusive cosmetics within the battle royale. Each season typically features its own unique theme with skins, Jam Tracks, and smaller cosmetics based around its central aesthetic, with the current "Lawless" season focused around criminals and villains. The current battle pass even features an exclusive crossover skin as well, with fans able to pick up Sub-Zero's look from Mortal Kombat 3 for a limited time. However, one particular item from the battle pass was erroneously released to the in-game shop.

As reported by VideoGamer, Fortnite is giving out refunds after a recent Item Shop update accidentally released a battle pass item early. The error allowed fans to purchase the "Runamok" Jam Track within the shop for 500 V-Bucks, intended to be a reward on Page 9 of Chapter 6 Season 2's battle pass. Epic Games was quick to address the incorrect listing, removing the Jam Track not only from the in-game shop but from players' lockers. Fortnite did issue a refund to players for the price of the Jam Track in the store, returning the 500 V-Bucks to fans who bought the erroneously listed item.

Fortnite is Refunding Players for an Accidentally Released Item

The Epic Games error would not be the first time Fortnite has been forced to give out refunds to fans. Epic Games has given fans the opportunity to claim refunds more than once throughout its history, associated both with dissatisfaction about skins and similar incorrect listings. Fortnite was even mandated to give out refunds by the United States FTC to the tune of $72 million, owing to what the government agency referred to as "dark patterns" by the developer.

Fortnite's refund debacle comes as the recent debut of Chapter 6 Season 2 has brought plenty to the battle royale. The new season introduced more of Fortnite's typical map updates, adding a variety of points of interest and multiple bosses to the battle royale. Fortnite would also debut more crossover content alongside the previously-mentioned Sub-Zero skin, adding a pair of skins based on Spike and Faye from popular anime series Cowboy Bebop. Fortnite's newest season looks to be kicking off with a bang with its array of new content.
