Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 has officially begun, continuing the island-wide conflict between the Imagined Order and The Foundation's Resistance. The battle can be seen played out through some of Fortnite's latest quest challenges, one of which tasks players with planting a data scraper on the tail of an IO airship.

Epic Games' popular free-to-play battle royale title kicked off its second season of Chapter 3 just a few days ago. The new season has altered many things, most controversially temporarily removing building from Fortnite, drastically altering the game's meta, and leaving its fanbase heavily divided.

How to Plant a Data Scraper at the Tail of An IO Airship in Fortnite

Responsible for ridding the island of building, it's up to players to take the fight to the IO and remove their influence. One of Fortnite's Chapter 3 Season 2 quests requires players to place a data scraper on the tail of one of their massive floating airships.

While the task is straightforward enough, players will need to first board the aircraft, which can be done in a few different ways. Beyond landing on one directly from the Battle Bus, IO airships can be reached by several attached ziplines as well as launching from one of the new Siege Cannons.

Once players have found their way to the top of one of the IO airships, they can head towards the base of the tail, where a glowing silhouette of a data scraper can be seen.

Simply hold the interact button to place the device, and the quest is complete. While any of the airships should be valid in this quest, players may want to consider the one near the Daily Bugle, as it's also near one of the IO's cloaked build jammer locations, one of Fortnite's main story quests.

The IO airships are occupied by enemy AI forces, not to mention a likely hotspot for players to land, leading to a dangerous area. Although Fortnite has taken away building, its given players more tools to move more efficiently.

Adding to the slide mechanic introduced last season, players now have the ability to sprint and mantle. Sprinting allows players to run at top speed for a short burst, albeit without any weapons in hand. Mantling lets players hoist themselves up from ledges, allowing players to still quickly scale buildings and the like.

After the data scraper is placed on the tail of an IO airship, players have plenty of other new content they can check out. There are three different locations to collect Omni Chips for the customizable Omni Sword, or players can choose violence and snag one of the ultra-powerful IO Titan tanks.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
