After weeks of rumors and teases, Fortnite has finally unveiled the character skins coming as part of the upcoming Chapter 4, Season 3 Battle Pass, including the legendary Optimus Prime of Transformers fame. Epic’s highly successful online multiplayer battle royale is no stranger to guest appearances from pop culture icons, especially when it comes to promoting upcoming films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. For example, just last month Spider-Man (Miles Morales) and Spider-Man 2099 swung onto Fortnite in time for the blockbuster Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.Not too long after this Spider-Verse crossover, rumors started to spread that Optimus Prime, the noble leader of the heroic Autobots in the Transformers franchise, was going to be the next special guest Fortnite skin as part of the forthcoming Chapter 4 Season 3. This latest Fortnite expansion is said to be jungle-themed, with the official title of Fortnite WILDS. On June 6, a brief CGI trailer for the next Fortnite season was released, offering up a brief glimpse of the new character skins players will be able to unlock when it goes live later this week. Now Fortnite is showing off some of these new playable character skins in full detail on its official Twitter account. Earlier today, promotional images for four of the eight Chapter 4 Season 3 characters were posted, with one of them being Optimus Prime’s look from the forthcoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts movie. The other skins revealed include a pink-clad Mariposa, an armored figure named Relik, and a tropical yellow attire for Fortnite fan-favorite Meowscles dubbed Purradise Meowscles.
While all of these new Fortnite Chapter 4, Season 3 character skins look great, Optimus Prime will likely be the main draw for players looking to build and battle their way across the Island as the famed Transformers hero. However, as is the case with most Fortnite guest character skins, fans might not be able to play as him right away. Fortnite’s Twitter handle recently asked players what they thought the next unlockable Tier 100 skin would be, and a response from Microsoft implied that it would be Optimus.
This would mean that players would have to play through most of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3’s Battle Pass to unlock Optimus Prime, at least until he appears in the Item Shop later down the road. Still, it has finally been confirmed that Optimus Prime is rolling into Fortnite in time for his return on the big screen later this week, along with the other character skins being added in Chapter 4, Season 3 on June 9.
