Fortnite's latest Star Wars celebration is currently underway for "May the 4th" festivities. With festivities celebrated between today, May 3, and May 17, players have many opportunities to revel in Fortnite's popular Star Wars content that had been previously shelved in the vault, such as lightsabers.
Iconic lightsabers such as Luke Skywalker's, Kylo Ren's, and Mace Windu's have previously been available for players to retrieve across Fortnite's Island. After a Fortnite leak claimed lightsabers would return for May 4, they are now back in Fortnite's two-week Star Wars event. Star Wars aficionados may now instantaneously identify a character based upon their lightsaber's hilt, and Fortnite's teaser for lightsabers returning has teased one pivotal character's lightsaber making its debut, as well as the potential of the character himself.
Fortnite now confirms that Obi-Wan Kenobi's blue-bladed lightsaber is independently available alongside the lightsabers that have been unvaulted for the Star Wars Day. But because of the way that this teaser is framed, with an out-of-frame, robed figure holding the respective lightsaber, Fortnite seems to tease Obi-Wan as a skin. If true, it is likely that the inclusion of an Obi-Wan cosmetic outfit would be in tandem with the character's eponymous Disney+ series, which airs at the end of May. Further, this could also be why the event is stretched out as far as it is.
One tease from another of Fortnite's Star Wars Day celebration is sure evidence that Obi-Wan is set to appear at some point. Players can now equip the E-11 Blaster Rifle, and to find one Fortnite states that "Stormtroopers have set up checkpoints in search of Obi-Wan." Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi series echoes this similar narrative with the Jedi trying to hide from the Empire, so it is a likely nod to what players can expect in the next couple of weeks.
This would meet the standard expectation for Fortnite's formula of released character skins and associated items, which commonly tie-in with media of the same franchise. Fortnite's most recent collaboration was with Street Fighter once more to add Blanka and Sakura, and before that Fortnite had added skins for Uncharted's Nathan Drake in both his live-action portrayal from Tom Holland and the authentic Naughty Dog iteration from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.
Other Star Wars Day festivities include the "intergalactic comeback" of several outfits in Fortnite's Item Shop, such as an Imperial Stormtrooper, Rey, Boba Fett, and others. Time will tell if Fortnite does intend to add Obi-Wan himself along with his "elegant weapon for a more civilized age." In the meantime, players can enjoy his lightsaber in Fortnite along with the recently unvaulted lightsabers players that are now available.
Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
