Summary
- Planet of the Apes could be the next Fortnite crossover event.
- The new movie release may coincide with the potential crossover.
- Keep an eye out for more information.
Fortnite may be crossing over with Planet of the Apes in time for the new movie, at least according to a reliable industry insider. There have been plenty of guest characters from across the realms of film, television, and even other video games in Fortnite, with one of the most recent ones adding the titular heroine from The Legend of Korra as a playable character skin.
Meanwhile, there is one iconic property that Fortnite hasn’t partnered up with yet - the legendary Planet of the Apes series. There have been a handful of video games set in the alternate future where apes rule the Earth instead of humans, from the PlayStation-era tie-in for the infamous 2001 Planet of the Apes remake to the prototype Revenge of the Apes title for the old Atari 2600 console that wouldn’t see the light of day until 2003. The latest Planet of the Apes game was 2017’s Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier, a prequel to that year’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Now the legendary primates are set to return to the silver screen once more in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and Fortnite might be planning a crossover event to commemorate the film. This rumor comes from noted industry insider and XboxEra Podcast host Nick Baker, who claimed to have heard about the hypothetical crossover from an anonymous source in a recent Twitter post. He didn’t give any details about what this crossover might entail, but fans are already guessing that it could involve playable character skins or other cosmetics pulled from the Planet of the Apes films.
Planet of the Apes Is Returning to the Big Screen This Year
While nothing has been verified regarding this supposed Fortnite/Planet of the Apes collaboration, the timing arguably couldn’t be better. As mentioned before, a new Planet of the Apes movie is set to hit theaters on May 10, titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Set nearly 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, Kingdom will show the fabled ape civilization at the height of its power, with a chimpanzee named Noa joining a primitive human girl named Mae on a quest to determine the future of both their kinds.
The new Planet of the Apes movie could be heralded by a Fortnite crossover if Nick Baker’s latest claims are to be believed. He has leaked several accurate Fortnite collaborations in the past, though players should still be skeptical of any rumors that haven’t been officially verified yet. As it stands now, Planet of the Apes fans should keep their eyes peeled for a more concrete confirmation of apes arriving on the Island in time for their next big-screen adventure later this year.
