With its massive popularity, Fortnite has become a trendsetter when it comes to events and holiday themed content. This year, Fortnite’s Halloween event, Fortnitemares, might have found the perfect timing for its release date.
While many games, especially in the live-service realm, host events and add content for real world holidays, Fortnite has become one of the front-runners when it comes to holiday content. Each year, fans are eager to find out what Fortnite’s Halloween event has in store for them. Past events have included crossover skins, limited time weapons, and even new game modes, all of which fans have come to hope for each year. Fortnitemares 2024 won’t disappoint, as these inclusions are said to be on the way shortly. With a release date early in October, Fortnite is set to capitalize on the attention of fans who are ready for spooky season to start early.

Fortnite’s Early Halloween Season Sets it up for Success
Despite the love that many people have for the Halloween season, only a select few games have released related content this year. All that is set to change though, as Fortnitemares began on October 11. While most games seem to be waiting until a bit closer to Halloween to start celebrating, Fortnite is getting in the spirit of the season much earlier, setting up success for this year's spooky festivities. A few other games, like Overwatch 2 and Dead by Daylight, also have seasonal updates planned in the coming weeks, but for a solid few days, Fortnite is set to be the only game fully embracing Halloween this early.
What to Expect from Fortnitemares 2024
Fortnite’s holiday updates seem to follow a standard pattern when it comes to what they add to the game. Each year, players can expect several new Fortnite skins based on horror-themed properties, and this year is no exception. The event is also set to see the return of weapons like the Jack-O-Launcher, and new limited-time weapons themed around this year's new skins. It’s also likely that players will see the return of limited-time game modes, such as the zombie slaying experiences of years past. Of course, the map and other assets will also receive their typical Halloween theming, with darkened atmospheres, pumpkins, and possibly some candy added to the loot pool.
Which Skins Will be Added for Fortnitemares
This year will see the release of several skins based on iconic villains. Advertisements for the event have featured Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as well as Marvel Comics’ Mephisto. Most notably, Billy the Puppet from the Saw franchise has already been added to the shop. As usual, he brings several themed cosmetics with him, including a tricycle emote and a spiralized slicer pickaxe. Other skins will likely bring their own horror cosmetic as well, though it's currently unknown what they might be. There are also rumors that Billy’s tricycle will be added as a mythic weapon that will autopilot towards enemies before exploding, but this hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Other skins teased include a Halloween variant of DJ Marshmello’s skin, as well as Halloween updates to some of the game’s classic characters. Spooky Fortnite skins have become a staple of fortnitemares, so more are expected to be added as the event goes on. With such an early release date, players can only hope that plenty of content will be added throughout this year's Halloween event. Fortnite has established its place at the top of the charts when it comes to live-service games, so while it’s unknown exactly what lies in wait for this fortnitemares event, players are eagerly awaiting the chance to find out.
