Anyone who is even somewhat familiar with Fortnite is well aware of the game's countless crossover skins. From outside gaming franchises, to comics, to films, novels, and more, a sizable portion of pop culture has found its way into Fortnite over the years. However, Marvel has undoubtedly the most crossover skins of all, and may grow its roster by at least one more. According to a new rumor, Doctor Strange could soon be dropping in on the island.
Epic Games' ultra-popular free-to-play battle royale title is in the final few days of its first Chapter 3 season. The past month or so has seen variously-themed weeks in Fortnite, with things like temporarily unvaulting items like Bows and Bouncers, or causing chickens to become the island's apex predator. The final themed week of the season, Bargain Bin Week, slashes the cost of anything requiring Gold Bars in half, while also including Bargain Bin Week quests for the first time ever.
News of the Sorcerer Supreme's potential arrival comes from notable Fortnite leaker and dataminer ShiinaBR. According to a recent tweet from the leaker, "sources" told them weeks ago that Doctor Strange would be the next collaboration between Fortnite and Marvel. ShiinaBR goes on to explain that in addition to their sources, prominent Fortnite content creator and gaming YouTuber Tabor Hill has suspiciously begun using the word "strange" in their stream today. While it remains unclear whether Doctor Strange will be part of an upcoming Battle Pass or a separately-paid skin, it's likely he'll appear at some point during Season 2.
Fans have already begun speculating things like the Cloak of Levitation acting as a new traversal item. Although it's not guaranteed Doctor Strange will be coming to Fortnite, one of his Marvel colleagues is all but officially confirmed. A recently leaked in-game screenshot, also courtesy of ShiinaBR, reveals Spider-Man's longtime love interest Mary Jane Watson is an incoming crossover skin. Collaborating with users InTheShade and FMBRintel, ShiinaBR revealed a screenshot showing the character's outfit. It should be noted that much like Green Goblin, this is the comics-accurate version of Mary Jane as opposed to Zendaya's MJ from the MCU films.
While are holding out hope for more big-name Marvel characters to materialize in-game, there are certainly more showing up in a new tie-in comic. Picking up where Fortnite X Marvel - Nexus War: Thor left off, Fortnite X Marvel - Zero War is a continuation of the story started during Chapter 2 Season 4. Little else is known about the upcoming comic, except that Epic Games is rewarding everyone that purchases a first print issue with a redeemable code for an in-game item. Although the item remains a mystery, there remains a possibility that it could be the rumored Doctor Strange skin.
Fortnite players will likely have to wait out the next few days until more news of Chapter 3 Season 2 becomes available. Although Fortnite appears to be on a Marvel streak, it may have something in store with competitor DC. Another recent rumor suggests a new Batman crossover could be coming to Fortnite, meaning players have a potential plethora of comic book content to look forward to.
