This is not the first time the iconic Marvel supervillain has appeared in Fortnite, though this variant requires extra effort on the part of players, with Doctor Doom being locked behind several challenges.
Players are currently in the middle of Fortnite's Chapter 5 Season 4 seasonal update. Officially titled Absolute Doom, Fortnite's latest season tasks players with taking on a massive island dominated by Doctor Doom himself. As players explore the map featuring several new areas, they will uncover a variety of Easter eggs and references to other iconic Marvel stories and characters. The new battle pass features a treasure trove of fresh Marvel faces, including both Mysterio and War Machine. Players can interact with a variety of Marvel characters during matches as well, with several boss fights scattered across the island. However, the focal point for many will be Doctor Doom, who can only be acquired by completing an array of special challenges, some of which are proving to be frustrating for some players.
One Reddit user recently voiced their frustrations with Fortnite's new Doctor Doom quests, saying they "hate" one quest in particular. The "Hit Players with Doctor Doom's Arcane Gauntlets" quest tasks players with tracking down the glowing green pair of gloves and attacking enemies with them. While hitting enemy players is quite trivial, it's finding Doctor Doom's gauntlets in Fortnite that is proving to be hard for some players, with only one pair being on the map at any given time. "There's only one way to get them and you gotta fight five players and the boss at least," said the player. "Literally everyone is going for them right now. The one time I got them, I got jumped by three guys in solo. And they had it as a story challenge too. Why? The one mythic that only one person can have."
Fortnite Players Frustrated by Doctor Doom Quest
It's hard enough to take down Fortnite's new bosses, but given the surge in popularity due to the Doctor Doom questline just now becoming available, it can be extremely challenging to try and snag the pair of gauntlets. User GalacticBaz said an earlier quest that required players to eliminate enemies with War Machine's Arsenal, another new special weapon for Fortnite, was even harder. "The Story(!) Quest where you have to kill five with War Machine is way worse. To find this thing is hard enough." JNorJT agreed, sharing their approach to the new Marvel Fortnite season. "Yeah, I hate them too, but I always remind myself that the season is still going to last 2 months, so there’s no point in rushing to do it now."
Absolute Doom began on August 16, kicking off Fortnite's highly anticipated second Marvel season. Several changes to Fortnite's island were made, adding multiple new Marvel-themed areas for players to explore and conquer, including Doomstadt, Castle Doom, and The Raft. Several new weapons were also added, like the Dual Micro SMGs, the Sovereign Shotgun, and the Monarch Pistol. Fortnite's comic-book-inspired season will end on November 2, 2024, giving players a generous amount of time to complete the battle pass and any other quests they may have missed.
