Summary

  • Fortnite teases a new Deadpool-themed skin, likely a Fishstick variant, in response to the hit movie's success.
  • The game has previously released Deadpool and Wolverine content to coincide with the movie launch.
  • Other superhero-themed crossovers, like Peelverine, are set to join Fortnite in upcoming updates.

A sketch of a new Deadpool-themed skin has been teased for online game batle royale Fortnite. While intentionally crudely drawn, the new Fortnite skin looks to be a variant of the popular in-game character Fishstick.

Fortnite had already rolled out Deadpool and Wolverine skins, emotes, weapons, and accessories in late July to coincide with the release of the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, which hit theaters on July 26. The movie has proven to be a massive hit for Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, having already grossed more than $1 billion dollars worldwide as of August 10 and earning a spectacular 95 percent approval rate in fan reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fortnite Fans Are Asking for Long-Lost Weapons to Be Added Back to the Game

Many Fortnite fans are asking for some long-lost weapons and items to be added back to Epic Games' battle royale in a future update.

The game's official Twitter account shared a brief video on August 11 that depicts a projection of a rough color drawing of what appears to be Fortnite original character Fishstick wearing a Deadpool bodysuit as a person in a movie-accurate Deadpool costume reacts in shock while walking on a stage below the image. That footage was actually captured on August 10 during the Disney Horizons Live presentation at D23, an official gathering of Disney fans that occurs once every two years and took place this year in Anaheim, California. While the post on Twitter doesn't specifically state that "Fishpool," as some fans are calling it, will be making its way into Fortnite, audio from the clip features Deadpool's voice saying, "No spoilers. I want to see it in the game. Is he awesome-looking?"

Fortnite Gets More Deadpool & Wolverine Crossovers

If the game truly is adding Fishpool, it won't be the first mashup of a superhero and an original game character that's been added in recently. Another of Fortnite's oddball characters, Peely the banana, recently had a fusion with Wolverine to create the Peelverine Plush Back Bling. That item, which lets players put a Wolverine-themed banana plushie on their characters' backs, was created for the D23 event, and players who tuned into the livestream or catch its replay can pick it up for free through August 16, although it will still be listed in the game's shop after that.

All the superhero themed content being added to the game, which includes new X-Men skins for Cyclops, Jubilee, and Colossus, aren't just tied to the release of the new hit motion picture. Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 is set to kick off on August 16, and it's set to boast a Marvel-centric theme, with Dr. Doom as a primary antagonist.
