Summary

  • DC characters like Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Starfire are making a return to Fortnite's item shop in December.
  • Fans can expect future collaborations with Fortnite and comic books.
  • Despite some player dissatisfaction with changes to the XP system, the future of Fortnite looks bright with upcoming collaborations and new content.

Epic Games surprised players by announcing that fan favorite DC characters would be making their return to Fortnite. DC characters like Catwoman haven't been seen in Fortnite's item shop for nearly a year. Some of the skins have been away even longer than that. In the past, the battle royale has seen major collaborations with DC. While many characters have come to the game, Fortnite characters even made their debut in comic books alongside icons like Batman and Superman. Some fans were uncertain if the skins would return after Disney bought a 1.5 billion dollar stake in the game and deepened its partnership with Epic Games.

Fortnite recently concluded its short season, Chapter 2 Remix. The season was a celebration of the game's past and included collaborations with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice, and the late artist Juice WRLD. Many fans were happy with the return of the old map. In fact, the finale even broke Fortnite's record for concurrent players. Epic Games followed up the end of Chapter 2 Remix with the release of Chapter 6 Season 1 at the beginning of December. So far, many fans seem happy with the new season. Players have been exploring an entirely new map with Japanese themes that also extend to characters within the battle pass and item shop.

DC Comics have only dipped a toe in the Fortnite metaverse when compared to the selection of Marvel characters, but here's a look at all 24 of them.

Over on Twitter, Fortnite's account posted that DC characters would be returning to the game's item shop throughout December. The re-release of these skins is coming hot off the heels of rumors about big collaborations between Fortnite and Marvel. While the account didn't mention all of the skins that are coming back, the accompanying image showed off Starfire, Harley Quinn, and Catwoman. It's also possible fans could see skins like Batman and Joker return as well.

Upcoming DC Skins in Fortnite

  • Starfire
  • Harley Quinn
  • Catwoman

The return of these characters is good news for fans, as it shows collaborations between DC and Marvel can continue to coexist within the game. It's likely players will see Marvel and DC characters share the item shop, as the collaboration between Fortnite and Marvel Rivals is set to debut in December as well. Since cars are now a major part of Fortnite, some fans have even expressed the desire to see a Batmobile in the game.

While Chapter 6 Season 1 has been a hit with many fans, some players are unhappy with the changes Fortnite has made to the XP system. Some gamers feel they're investing too much time and receiving little in the way of rewards. This has proven to be a bit of a hiccup for the battle royale, but many fans are still very positive about the future of the game. With collaborations like Godzilla, Demon Slayer, Cyberpunk 2077, Cars, and even more Marvel, it seems like fans have a lot to look forward to.
