Aliens have officially arrived in Fortnite, and players can see their presence manifest in a variety of different ways. For example, there are now Cosmic Chests spawning across Fortnite's map, and indeed they appear to be of extraterrestrial invention. For those fans that are curious about the best way to go about locating these Chests, and how to open them once they are found, this guide contains full details on these brand new containers.

The first thing to know about Cosmic Chests in Fortnite  is that they can only spawn in Duos, Trios, or Squads. As such, players should not waste their time hunting for them when playing Solos, as they simply do not appear in that game mode. Furthermore, fans need to make sure that they fill their teams, rather than join a Duos, Trios, or Squads match solo, or they will not be able to open the Cosmic Chests that appear. More will be said on that concept later in this guide.

After joining one of the team-based game modes, players that are on the hunt for a Cosmic Chest should quickly commandeer a UFO in Fortnite. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to look for some blue smoke rising from the ground and land at that position straightaway. Indeed, this smoke indicates that a UFO is parked on the ground at the location, and here is a map that highlights a few spots where these vehicles tend to appear:

Once the UFO has been secured, the driver should pickup their squad members and maneuver the vehicle around the map, keeping their eyes on the ground. This is recommended because a marker will appear if a Fortnite  player gets close to a Cosmic Chest, and the team should simply land nearby and approach the marker when that occurs. With the entire group gathered around the Chest, it is now possible to open the container, and the way that is done quite straightforward.

More specifically, teammates simply need to take turns hitting the circles that appear on the crystal that surrounds the Cosmic Chest in order to ultimately set it free. When that occurs, players are free to collect the loot that drops and be on their way. Notably, the loot that comes from Cosmic Chests can include Fortnite's Alien Artifacts in some quantity, which fans can use to buy custom styles for the Kymera skin if they wish to.

Fortnite is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
