- Fans are thrilled by the Easter Eggs in Doctor Doom's Castle.
Fortnite fans have found a reference to a beloved meme from Marvel vs. Capcom, where Doctor Doom uses his iconic foot dive attack. Fortnite is currently hosting its latest collaboration for Chapter 5 Season 4, "Absolute Doom." Doctor Doom is its central antagonist, having taken over the island using the powers of Pandora's box. The Marvel Universe and Fortnite players have joined forces in order to stop the iconic antagonist and liberate the island.
Players can find Doctor Doom in his very own castle, and he has an assortment of trophies from his time defeating various Marvel heroes. Fortnite's Doctor Doom boss fight will test many players' abilities, but will reward the player with themed mythic loot. Players will not only need to contend with Doom himself, but also his Doombots. Players participating in this event might recognize a familiar attack from the Doombots, calling back to one of Doctor Doom's most famous techniques in the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
Fortnite's Doctor Doom Seems to Have Decimated the Marvel Universe
Doctor Doom seems to have asserted his dominance in Fortnite by taking out many other famous Marvel characters and putting their remains on display.
Doombots will fold their arms and then launch upwards, descending with their legs outstretched as they charge towards players. Fans of Marvel vs. Capcom recognized this attack as Doctor Doom's foot dive attack. Doctor Doom was a popular character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, where he was a high-tier character in the metagame. One of his most useful attacks was the foot dive, and it would become a meme due to the frequency of Doom yelling "foot dive" while using it.
Doctor Doom's Foot Dive and History in Marvel vs. Capcom
While Doctor Doom made appearances in past Marvel vs. Capcom games, the MvC3 iteration is the most fondly remembered one. Nick Shapiro, the senior balance designer for Fortnite, commented on fans discovering this Easter Egg, stating that it was a very intentional reference to Doom's playable history in the Capcom crossover and that it was one of the most exciting things he included for Season 4. "FGC for life, so glad we got to do this," said Shapiro.
Many fighting game fans were thrilled to see Doctor Doom foot diving on his adversaries, though this can only be used by the NPC version of the character and not his playable skin. Some fans joke that since Fortnite included it, it would be a shame to not see Doom do a foot dive in one of his appearances in the MCU. Doctor Doom's Castle contains several Easter Eggs that reference other aspects of the Marvel universe, such as his throne being made up of Fantastic Four member The Thing, Magneto's destroyed helmet, and more for fans to find.
