Despite competition from other titles, Fortnite manages to retain its popularity by providing regular and frequent content updates. The battle royale seems to get updates on an almost weekly basis, with this week being no different. Fortnite has revealed details regarding its v20.20 update, which adds a new battle with the IO, an all-new weapon, and more.
Epic Games' popular free-to-play title is now entering the second month of Chapter 3 Season 2. The current season made waves in the gaming community for completely removing building for the first 10 days or so, heavily dividing players. Fortnite eventually brought building back into the fold, adding the dedicated Zero Build Mode for players who prefer the game without it.
Detailed in an official post, the Fortnite v20.20 update's biggest addition is the Battle for Coney Crossroads. The battle between the sinister Imagined Order, or IO, and The Seven's Resistance continues to rage on, with the latest conflict centered around the centrally-located POI. Players must once again drive back three waves of IO Guards at different points around the location, with Seven Sentries spawning in as player support. The update ends the conflict that was occurring at Condo Canyon, with players now able to raise funds for another Armored Battle Bus and set of Turrets.
While Fortnite's 20.10 update unvaulted several established items, 20.20 introduces an entirely new one. Players now have access to the all-new Ranger Shotgun. Featuring a much longer range than most of the game's shotguns, the Ranger Shotgun only has a single shot per clip. However, the new gun can deal out some serious damage. The Common version of the weapon causes 117 damage, while the Legendary can inflict up to a whopping 142. The powerful new shotgun can be found from certain vendors, in chests, Supply Drops, and sharks.
Fortnite's 20.20 update also gives players a new pair of items to unvault. The choice is between the Boogie Bomb or the Rift-To-Go, both of which can be handy to help players out of a pinch. For those unfamiliar, the Boogie Bomb causes those caught in the blast radius to spontaneously begin dancing, leaving them defenseless for a few seconds. The Rift-To-Go instantly summons a Rift, giving players a chance to escape heated situations. The prior item vote was between the Combat Assault Rifle and the MK-Seven Assault Rifle, with the latter successfully funded.
In addition to the new battle location, new weapon, and new item vote, the Fortnite update also adds the Covert Ops Quests in Zero Build mode. Helping out The Origin, one of the new characters for Chapter 3 Season 2, players are required to finish both stages of each quest before time runs out to receive the next one. Those who manage to complete all of them will be rewarded with the Secret Sledge Pickaxe. With a wide variety of new content in its latest update, Fortnite players certainly have plenty to do.
Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
