2024 has been a big year for the One Piece anime and manga. Eiichiro Oda and his staff revealed multiple projects, and all of them are expected to perform well. The One Piece anime is going on an extended hiatus till April 2025. To help fans fill the void left by the break, Toei Animation decided to release the remastered version of the Fish-Man Island arc.

Like many older One Piece arcs, the Fish-Man Island arc suffered from slow pacing. The remastered version will have 21 episodes in comparison to the original's 52. Aside from the anime releasing the remastered episodes, an adaptation of the One Piece novel Straw Hats was confirmed. It was directed by Megumi Ishitani.

In November 2024, Eiichiro Oda released a Q&A in which he answered some of the biggest questions related to the One Piece manga. He even delved into the relationship between Luffy and his father. A new set of vivre cards was also released, which provided even more information to the audience about their favorite characters. Oda also took a two-week break to help with the production of the One Piece live-action, which is currently filming the second season. The initial season received overwhelmingly positive acclaim, which is why it was renewed for two more seasons.
