The Black Phone 2 Just Got A Promising Update
The Black Phone 2 is an upcoming sequel from Blumhouse, and horror fans will want to know the latest update about The Grabber's story.
Five Nights at Freddy's, the movie adaptation of the popular video game created by Scott Cawthon, was released on October 27th, 2023. The story follows Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), a security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza whose job becomes much scarier than he ever imagined when he learns the animatronic toys have been taken over by five kids who disappeared. According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed $291,493,620. The film also stars Mary Stuart Masterson, Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, and Piper Rubio. While the Five Nights at Freddy's ending is satisfying, it's easy to imagine a sequel picking up where it leaves off. The game and the film adaptation have a compelling setting, memorable characters, and a fun premise.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 was greenlit in the spring of 2024, and in an October 2024 interview with Esquire, Hutcherson promised a "bigger" sequel where the "stakes are higher." Lillard is returning for the sequel and told Collider in October 2024, "I'm really thrilled" and "I think the script's fantastic." Lillard fans will also get to see the actor play Stu Macher again in Scream 7, which will be released on February 27th, 2026.
The Five Nights at Freddy's movie stayed true to the game as the creator, Cawthon, was a producer and also co-wrote the script. According to Upi.com, at New York Comic Con in 2023, Blum said;
"What became clear to us during the development process was that the only way to pull this off was to make the movie for fans of Five Nights at Freddy's and, if anyone else came along, fine."
The Five Nights at Freddy's sequel is only one intriguing Blumhouse 2025 horror release. The production company has a great mix of original stories along with exciting sequels. The creepy thriller The Woman in the Yard will be released on March 28th, 2025. Christopher Landon's thriller Drop, which stars Meghann Fahy, comes out on April 11th, 2025. Then, M3GAN 2.0 will be released on June 27th, 2025, followed by The Black Phone 2 on October 17th, 2025.
There's still a long wait for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 as the movie will be released in theaters on December 5th, 2025. Fans can watch the Blumhouse social media accounts on April 2nd, 2025 to see if there will be a teaser or some first look images.
