Summary

  • Players in The First Descendant are shocked by a gas tank dealing more damage than a top weapon, questioning the game's design.
  • Nexon has quickly released updates to fix bugs and improve player engagement in The First Descendant.
  • The community continues to debate online about misleading DPS counters and damage scaling issues in the game.

The First Descendant players are confused by a strange DPS discrepancy which makes a hazard more powerful than one of the best weapons in the game currently. This discovery led many players to question some of the design choices made by the development team for The First Descendant at Nexon Games.

In just a month after the game's launch, Nexon released multiple updates for The First Descendant in order to promote player engagement and fix lingering issues. The First Descendant hotfix 1.0.6 recently made various adjustments to various Descendant characters and fixed a bug that prevented players from earning Supply Coins from the Battle Pass' Weekly and Seasonal Challenges. Hotfix 1.0.6 also fixed a major bug that was affecting the Fortress Outskirts mission after the release of The First Descendant update 1.5. Since the update's release, players have scoured the game for more issues that can be reported to the development team for fixes in future updates.

Reddit user xF00Mx recently found out that a single explosive gas tank deals more damage to a Recombined Cell Cabury than a fully built Thunder Cage Ultimate submachine gun, which deals approximately 558,399 DPS. The gas tank's explosion depleted half of the enemy's health, likely dealing millions in damage. The First Descendant community on Reddit were just as confused and amazed by the incident as xF00Mx was, since it calls the game's damage scaling into question. Some users claim that the gas tank's explosion was based on a set percentage instead of being based on defensive and elemental values, which means it was able to deal much greater damage compared to rounds from the Thunder Cage.

Gas Tank Explosion Deals Much More Damage Than Thunder Cage SMG in The First Descendant

Others believe the DPS counter is misleading and a pointless feature in The First Descendant, since it doesn't appear to be entirely accurate for every weapon in the loadout menu. Although the Thunder Cage weapon is not ideal for boss enemies, some argue that it should have done more damage to the Recombined Cell Cabury than what was displayed in xF00Mx's footage. The damage scaling from the explosion can also be immersion-breaking for some players, as a newly built weapon can be seen dealing less damage than objects that players can't rely on in typical encounters.

It's unclear when weapon and sandbox adjustments will be released next in The First Descendant, but it's possible that such adjustments may arrive at the start of Season 1. Nexon's roadmap for The First Descendant indicates new story missions, weapons, and other forms of in-game content will be available when Season 1 begins in late August 2024. Season 2 will continue the story with a new episode in early December, so there will be plenty of updates and content for The First Descendant players to experience before 2024 comes to a close.
