Fire Emblem: Three Houses reeled in longtime fans and new ones to the Fire Emblem franchise back in 2017. Its characters quickly broke into the gacha-spinoff Fire Emblem Heroes, and after the 2022 Nintendo Direct, it would seem they'll be the stars of another Fire Emblem spinoff: Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.
While not the first Fire Emblem Warriors game to exist, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes doesn't appear to have characters from other Fire Emblem games. A recurring gaming mechanic in the Fire Emblem world is Supports, which are special conversations players can unlock between Character A and Character B by having them fight next to one another. Given Three Houses' large cast of characters, it was impossible for everyone to have a Support Chain with one another. Some fans were even displeased that the House Leaders (Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude) did not interact beyond scripted, in-game events. Fans are hoping that Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes remedies this by adding brand-new Support conversations for the House Leaders.
7 Edelgard & Sylvain
Sylvain's personality may remind some fans of previous Fire Emblem characters Sain (FE7) and Inigo (FEA). He's the type of character who will flirt with any woman he sees, which is undoubtedly something Edelgard may not find too appealing. However, below the surface, Sylvain has a lot to be upset about.
In a Support with Blue Lions' Mercedes in Three Houses, Sylvain mentions his absolute hatred for Crests and how they destroyed the relationship between him and his brother, Miklan. He alludes to his family wanting him to marry so he can pass on his Crest. Anyone who's played Three Houses is well aware that Edelgard has a similar outlook on Crests. Edelgard's reasons for disliking Crests versus Sylvain's reasons are different, but they ultimately come to the same end: Crests need to be removed from Fodlan's system.
Furthermore, Edelgard has absolutely no Supports with the Blue Lions in Three Houses. Sylvain may not be her first choice of person to speak with, but they could find some common ground in mutual dislike for Crests.
6 Claude & Dedue
The Azure Moon route, along with some of Dedue's Supports, reveals that Dedue was the sole survivor in the Tragedy of Duscur. Unfortunately for Dedue, being from Duscur made him an easy target for the more-biased people of Fodlan, particularly Faerghus.
Claude mentions that he faced prejudice for being half-Almyran and half-Fodlan from both Almyra and Fodlan. His main goal is to unite Fodlan and break down the borders between its neighboring countries. While Dedue believes Dimitri can make a better world, there's nothing stopping him from finding common ground with Claude in a well-written Support.
5 Dimitri & Dorothea
Before the timeskip, Dorothea is focused on marrying a rich noble to take care of her for the rest of her life. The tragedies of war soon catch up to her though, and by the timeskip, Dorothea's priorities are shifted. It's difficult to tell where exactly Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes takes place. Some theorize it's during the five years Byleth was asleep, while others believe it's set in an alternate universe where Byleth is from the original timeline. Regardless, Dorothea could have an interesting Support with Dimitri for a few reasons.
Dorothea has a deep-rooted hatred for the nobility, due to her past. However, her Supports with Ferdinand show she is able to overcome this bias once she gets to really know someone. Dimitri certainly fits the "noble" description, but he's far from arrogant and doesn't wave around his title to anyone who speaks with him. If Dorothea brought Dimitri's attention to how unfairly the poor were being treated, it could strengthen his resolve to make a better world where the strong help the weak. Just like Edelgard, who has no Supports with anyone from the Blue Lions, Dimitri was unable to have Supports with anyone from the Adrestian Empire. Having one in FEW: 3H would be nice for players to see.
4 Claude & Hubert
Behind his smiles and good nature, Claude is a tactician. He knows how to play people and always thinks ahead, which Hubert would find both admirable and threatening. The Crimson Flower and Verdant Wind routes reveal that Claude and Hubert have some form of respect toward one another.
In Crimson Flower, Hubert commends Claude for thinking ahead in the battle at Derdriu. Verdant Wind has Hubert leaving behind a letter about Shambhala, implying that he trusted Claude and the Golden Deer to finish off the real threat: Those Who Slither in the Dark. This makes Claude realize that Hubert may not have been the bad guy he'd always thought him to be. Despite having little to no interaction in Three Houses with each other, there are in-game scenes that showcase Claude and Hubert's similarities. If they're forced to fight on the same side in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, they'd make quite a team.
3 Claude & Edelgard
At a first impression, it may not seem like Claude and Edelgard have a lot in common. However, they share common ideals and goals. They both want to create a world where everyone's equal, to abolish the noble hierarchy and, most importantly, shed light on the false teachings of Seiros. These two have a lot in common and Crimson Flower even pushes for players to spare Claude.
Where Edelgard and Claude clash is their methods of achieving their goals. Edelgard is someone who believes "the ends justify the means." If she has to stand atop a mountain of corpses just to create a better world, she'll do so without hesitating. Claude, on the other hand, would rather spare the pointless slaughter of innocents and find a way to unite the world in a more peaceful manner. Seeing this conflict come up between them would make for an interesting chain of Supports where they could ultimately learn about one another's motivations and reasons for doing what they do.
2 Dimitri & Claude
Dimitri and Claude's relationship is something that was unexplored in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Their relationship wasn't fueled by misunderstanding and hatred like Dimitri and Edelgard's, but it didn't have a whole lot to go on either. Despite this, Dimitri and Claude are a popular duo that fandom likes to explore because of their potential. Having a Support between them in Three Hopes would do some good and show what could've been in their debut game.
One thing Dimitri and Claude have in common is their desire to avoid killing innocents to bring about change in the world. Dimitri doesn't seem to agree with some of Claude's tactics, but if he came to understand that Claude would do anything to make sure no harm befalls his friends, then he may be a bit more receptive.
1 Dimitri & Edelgard
Out of the House Leaders in Three Houses, Dimitri and Edelgard's stories are so tightly woven with one another that it's almost a shock they weren't able to Support at all. In Azure Moon, Edelgard serves as the final boss, while in Crimson Flower, Dimitri stands in between her and Rhea. The Ashen Wolves DLC has them interacting a little in Abyss, but a Support conversation could give them much more.
It's hard to determine which route FEW: 3H is following, but hopefully it's one where Edelgard and Dimitri can talk to each other without drawing their weapons. Their shared past is more than enough to build a Support on, but there are plenty of other topics a Dimitri and Edelgard Support could cover.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is set to release for Nintendo Switch on June 24, 2022.
