Those who've played Fire Emblem: Three Houses before will likely have fond memories of the lovable and talkative Gatekeeper who so diligently watches over the entrance to Garreg Mach Monastery. Though his role in the story is only a minor one, his comical dialogue and positive attitude helped to make him a real fan favorite among members of the Fire Emblem community and are likely what led to his eventual return in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

After completing four or five chapters, players will be able to find the Gatekeeper doing what he does best; guarding the entrance to the camp. If they speak with him there, he'll deliver his iconic "Nothing to report" line while also revealing that he'd love to be fighting on the frontlines were it not for his gate-guarding duties. Little does he know though that he will eventually get his wish, as with enough time and effort, players are actually able to recruit the Gatekeeper in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

The Gatekeeper is one of the strongest units in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, though unlocking him is going to take a considerable amount of time. Rather than simply having to play through the main story once to unlock New Game+ mode as is the case with other end-game units, players will need to complete two of the three available routes before they'll be able to recruit the Gatekeeper.

After starting up their third run, players will need to reach either Chapter 4 or 5 depending on which house they selected for their third playthrough. The good news is that, unlike the game's other recruitable characters, players won't need to use strategies or spend Renown points through Shez's journal to unlock the Gatekeeper. Instead, they'll simply need to wait until the Gatekeeper shows up in his usual position and then speak with him in order to unlock him.

As well as unlocking the Gatekeeper as a playable unit, speaking with the loveable guard a little later on will enable players to take part in a special Paralogue mission in which Shez fights a mock battle against the leaders of the three houses. Like any other unit, players will also be able to take the Gatekeeper out on expeditions after they've unlocked him, though, sadly, they still won't be able to learn his real name by doing so.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is available now on Nintendo Switch.
