The Trickster Class originated in Fire Emblem Awakening and made a recent return in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. However, this Class was locked behind the Cindered Shadows DLC. Fortunately for those who didn't purchase Cindered Shadows, the Trickster Class is available in Fire Emblem: Three Hopes as a Master Class.
Tricksters excel in swords, bows, and can even use magic. Just like in Three Houses, they serve as the Master Class to the Thief-Assassin Classes in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Since Trickster isn't DLC-locked this time, it's much easier to build units that make ideal Assassins. A unit with high speed and dexterity can bring out the full potential of the Trickster Class.
Trickster: Unlocking, Build, and Class Abilities
A Trickster's best stats are their Speed, Dexterity, and Luck. Their potential to use Magic means they can use Reason and Faith, something Assassins and Thieves cannot. While Three Houses had them excel in swords and bows, Three Hopes narrows down the Trickster's best weapon to swords. This means they'll have the weapon advantage against axes, but a disadvantage against lances.
Tricksters have the following Class Abilities:
- Locktouch: Allows Tricksters to open a chest without a key.
- Pass: Makes it easier to Perfect Dodge.
- Lucky Seven: One of the unit's seven stats will receive a boost after defeating a commander.
- Axe Buster Lv.4: Deals 95% damage to axe-wielding enemies.
Characters are unable to learn both Locktouch and Lucky Seven by mastering the Trickster Class. However, some can learn Pass, and a downplayed version of Axe Buster: Axebreaker, which deals 50% damage as opposed to 95%. Other units may learn Patience, which deals extra damage to the stun gauge when units are charging an attack. There's also Burst of Resolve and Burst of Valor, which restores the Awakening and Warrior gauge upon each critical hit respectively. Forethought will restore both the Awakening and Warrior Gauge if units are using Combat Arts or Magic. Dex +10, as its name indicates, will add +10 to a unit's Dexterity Stat. Finally Medical Expertise increases the effectiveness of healing items (Vulneraries, Concoctions, Elixirs) by 50%.
To unlock the Trickster Class, units will need to master these Classes:
- Myrmidon (Beginner Class)
- Thief (Intermediate Class)
- Assassin (Advanced Class)
The following units have Innate Abilities with the Trickster Class:
- Monica (Scarlet Blaze)
- Manuela (Scarlet Blaze)
- Linhardt (Scarlet Blaze; recruitable on Azure Gleam and Golden Wildfire)
- Shamir (Golden Wildfire; recruitable on Azure Gleam and Scarlet Blaze)
Best Abilities and Units for Trickster
The Trickster Class isn't gender-locked like the Brawler and Pegasus Knight Classes, which means any unit can become a Trickster. Just because this is so, doesn't mean it may be worth doing. A slow-moving unit or a unit that has poor Strength or Magic may struggle with this swift-attacking Class. While there are weapons that calculates Magic Damage instead of Physical Damage (ex: Levin Sword), the Abilities that units will learn from the Trickster line can be the deciding factor for some players.
A good unit makes the most out of their Class by mastering various Classes to learn different Abilities. Since Tricksters rely on Speed, it may be best to learn the Tableturner and Muster Abilities to go with the Trickster's Pass. As long as players are upgrading the Tactics Facility, each unit can have up to 10 Abilities. Here are several that are worth equipping:

* Tableturner and Muster are female-Class exclusive Abilities that some units can learn through the Pegasus and Falcon Knight Classes. The only male units that can inherit these Skills are Shez and Byleth. This requires players to learn these abilities as female Shez and Byleth, then, on New Game Plus, select male Shez and male Byleth.
It should be noted that some Abilities listed in the above table may not be accessible to some units. For example, Pavise can only be learned by Hubert, Dedue, Mercedes, and Sylvain. Provoke, on the other hand, can be learned by every unit. A Trickster's Build will also depend on how a player wants to use them. Using a Trickster to farm money is recommended simply because of the Trickster's fast attacks. This means it's best to equip them with the Despoil Ability. However, those that don't want to use Tricksters for farming money can instead swap out Despoil for a different Ability.
Finally, the ideal Tricksters in Three Hopes are Petra and Yuri. This is due to their high Speed and Dexterity. While Petra is available immediately at the start of Scarlet Blaze, Yuri needs to be recruited, and his recruited time varies depending on the route. If players choose Azure Gleam or Golden Wildfire, then this also applies to Petra.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is available now on Nintendo Switch.
