The Fire Emblem franchise is one of Nintendo's most popular and recognizable IPs, spanning multiple generations of titles. Many of its mainline entries are considered some of the best turn-based strategy games with the best stories, making it likely that people will see a new one developed for the upcoming Switch 2. However, there is also a chance that instead of a new entry, Intelligent Systems could start working on a project that was likely difficult on the previous consoles. With the power of the Switch's successor, it might be possible to see the revival of a particular game in the Fire Emblem franchise and thus a much-needed lens.

Among the Fire Emblem games, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are some of the more interesting entries. Other than the latter being a direct sequel to the former, the two are separated by different console generations, which could have made it difficult for some to play both together. With the upcoming Switch 2, it could be possible to have both remade and playable on the device, a project that Intelligent Systems should highly consider. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are popular enough to warrant being on the Switch 2 and, with the potential power and resources of the next-generation console, there's a case to be made about both titles returning in a shinier and more well-polished form.

The Next Fire Emblem Game Should Make One Key Change

After Engage, the next Fire Emblem game's protagonist should deviate from Nintendo's normal approach to designing their background.

Why Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn Should Be Remade for the Switch 2

With Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn considered some of the best Fire Emblem games of all time, both would make fine choices for remakes. Indeed, there are several reasons why both would warrant being worked on for the Switch 2:

  • The connecting storylines of both would present the opportunity to have both remakes in a bundle, ensuring people have the option to play both instead of getting them separate.
  • Both games have incredible stories that can easily be followed, and players don't have to play the previous game to know what's happening in the sequel, making it very accessible.
  • Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are considered important entries fans should learn about, as the former was the first to have 3D in-game graphics and voice-overs, while the latter was the first to provide victory animations.
  • The two entries produced some of the best Fire Emblem protagonists and party members, which is why fans of the franchise should learn about them and experience their journey.

The Opportunities a Successful Remake of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn Could Present

Since the Switch 2 is stated to have significantly more power than its predecessor, remakes for both titles could have huge benefits. Only time will tell if Intelligent Systems will decide to push through with such an ambitious project, though if dual-pack remakes of Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn come to fruition and reach high levels of success on the Switch 2, it could open up possibilities for even more Fire Emblem remakes.

Since it's one of the Nintendo franchises with the most games, Intelligent Systems won't be spoiled for choice. If the developer wants to retain the path of remaking direct sequels, then The Blazing Blade and The Binding Blade would be two of the best candidates for a rework. Even some of the older titles without any correlation to one another, like Sacred Stones and Shadows of Valentia, would be good choices as they're still popular with the fans even today.

Rather, before that can happen, Nintendo has to see the potential of what an altered and polished Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn can do for its next big console. Given what both games can offer and how it's finally possible to remake them, it could do wonders for the franchise.

Although they're known as some of the hardest Fire Emblem games, Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are beloved titles, making them good candidates for a remake on the Switch 2. Both have their fans, and it would be a genuine disservice to the franchise if Nintendo didn't allow both new and old fans a new way to relive the amazing things the two had to offer.
