Finnegan Fox, conservationist icon and animal voice actor in Overwatch 2, has passed away, as confirmed by the YouTube channel of the SaveAFox Rescue charity he represented for several years. SaveAFox representatives and fans around the world are mourning the loss of Finnegan, whose vocal appearance in Overwatch 2 was just a small part of his legacy.

Nearly a full year before its release, Overwatch 2 announced a new support character named Kiriko, a fox-eared ninja known for tossing around protection suzu to heal her allies and kunai to harm her enemies. Her skills and stylish appearance quickly won her a lot of praise, as did her kitsune spirit, an ethereal fox voiced by the late Finnegan, which was the icing on the cake for a lot of players.

Now, SaveAFox has confirmed that Finnegan passed away roughly two months ago. After being rescued in 2015, he immediately bonded with his new keeper, Mikayla Raines, who four years later went on to found SaveAFox, a charitable organization dedicated to saving foxes from fur farms. The charity has raised a lot of awareness for animal conservation by gaining popularity on platforms like YouTube and TikTok, and while multiple different foxes have been featured in their videos, the humorous disagreements between Raines and the whiny, mischievous, and sometimes spoiled Finnegan, have helped SaveAFox's channels on those two platforms alone rack up a combined 5.6 million followers in less than seven years. "He's honestly largely responsible for us being able to save as many animals as we did," said Ethan Frankamp, the current head of SaveAFox, in a 41-minute-long tribute to Finnegan on the charity's YouTube channel.

The famous video game pet was preceded in death by his handler and human best friend, Raines, who passed away at the age of 30 in June 2025. The news of the world's most famous fox's passing was broken by Raines’ widower, Frankamp, across several social media platforms. Frankamp apologized for delaying the news of Finnegan's death by nearly two months, explaining that he has been experiencing a lot of personal difficulty, dealing with the loss of both his young wife and his favorite animal in such a short amount of time. In a post on Facebook, he offered to reimburse any sponsors who made monetary donations directed at Finnegan over the past two months, but he also made a request for help in reimbursing the charity for Finnegan's end-of-life medical expenses, which has racked up more than $6,100 of donations in less than 21 hours.

Fans aware of Finnegan Fox's involvement in Overwatch 2 and those who came to know him through his videos have been paying tribute to him in a number of different ways online. Multiple fan accounts of the game on social media have shared side-by-side images of the kitsune spirit and the handsome fox who provided his unforgettable voice, along with images and videos showcasing some of his most humorous or adorable antics caught on film across the years. These include multiple instances of him snuggling and playing with Raines, as well as sharing a tasty fish with a small fox pup, and, of course, making a wide variety of happy, whiny sounds.

Those who would like to make a contribution to SaveAFox in memory of Finnegan can do so through the charitable organization's official website. Additionally, Infuse Studio's cozy action-adventure animal game series Spirit of the North, in which players assume the role of an Icelandic red fox, has a partnership with SaveAFox that brought three of its most popular foxes, including Finnegan, into the game as skins. 100 percent of the purchase price of these skins are being donated directly to SaveAFox.
