Everyone is curious about the Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things spinoff, and Finn Wolfhard has a compelling idea about where the sci-fi story can go next.
Ever since the hit Netflix series premiered in July 2016, fans have been captivated by strong characters like Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and the epic and scary setting of the Upside Down. When the Duffer Brothers announced they're working on a spinoff, fans were curious to find out what the premise would be. Although Ross and Matt Duffer aren't sharing what it's about, they've t eased that it's "very different," which suggests that the story will veer off in a surprising and unfamiliar direction. Wolfhard recently gave an interview and explained his concept for the show's upcoming spinoff, and he has an excellent vision for it.
Finn Wolfhard Has A Great Idea For The Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things Spinoff
The Actor Is The Only One Who Guessed The Real Premise
In an interview with Variety, Finn Wolfhard shared his smart idea for the Stranger Things spinoff. He said:
"Like David Lynch’s ‘Twin Peaks.’ Sort of an anthology and different tones but similar universe or same universe. I think set in different places and all tied together through this mythology of the Upside Down. Don’t even talk about Hawkins. Don’t have any mention of our characters."
He continued:
"I think the coolest way, the way that I would do it, there has to be labs everywhere. If there was one in Hawkins, there’s one in Russia. Where else could they be?”
It's interesting to hear that, instead of leaning on nostalgic elements like major and minor characters or the setting of the Upside Down, Wolfhard thinks that the spinoff should focus on different parts of the world. It's unsettling to imagine villains like Vecna all over the globe, and even scarier to think that there could be more than one Upside Down.
On the one hand, it's good if the Stranger Things spinoff is unique. On the other hand, fans would love to see their favortie characters again, so the spinoff has to feature new characters who are just as clever and gripping. It would also be great to see at least one cameo from a familiar cast member.
Ross Duffer told Variety that he and his brother have "mind melded with" Wolfhard, as he's the only person who correctly guessed the real spinoff idea (which is definitely impressive).
In his interview, Wolfhard shared how "emotional" it was to say goodbye to Stranger Things, and it's amazing to reflect on everything that's happened in his career since he began playing Mike Wheeler in 2016. Along with playing Young Richie Tozier in It: Chapter Two in 2018, the actor took on the role of Trevor Spengler in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. He also co-wrote and co-directed the horror comedy Hell of a Summer with Billy Byrk and also starred in the film as Chris. The film takes on the beloved slasher summer camp trope and is an entertaining ride.
Wolfhard and the rest of the cast may have shed more than a few tears about the end of Stranger Things, and it's tough not to feel touched by the season 5 trailer, which emphasizes the close relationships between The Party members. Almost a decade since the show's premiere, it's almost time to find out Mike's fate and learn what happens to all his friends and family members. Part one of the fifth and final season is almost here and the first four episodes will premiere on Netflix on November 26th, 2025. Part two (three episodes) will arrive on December 25th, and the series finale will be available December 31st.
