Released some four months on from its surprise announcement at the 2023 Game Awards, The Rising Tide is the second of two DLC expansions for Final Fantasy 16. It sees Clive and his friends uncover the secrets of Leviathan the Lost, who, as it turns out, is a lot less lost than his name might otherwise suggest.

Final Fantasy 16: How to Start the Echoes of the Fallen DLC

Players will need to have met a few fairly simple requirements before they can start the Echoes of the Fallen DLC in Final Fantasy 16.

It's a much more substantial offering than Echoes of the Fallen, and far less linear to boot, with the DLC also providing players with plenty of additional side content to sink their teeth into. Before any of that though, Final Fantasy 16 players will first need to figure out how to start The Rising Tide DLC in the first place.

How to Start The Rising Tide (FF16 DLC)

In order to be able to start the Rising Tide DLC questline, players will need to have unlocked the Back to Their Origin main story quest and completed the Where There's a Will and Priceless side quests, as Joshua and Jill will be accompanying Clive on this new adventure. Assuming they've met these requirements, players will be able to start The Rising Tide by examining the unmarked missive on Clive's reading table at the Hideaway. Doing so and heeding the mysterious quest will trigger a cutscene, after which, players will unlock a Trophy called The Calm and will begin to see Rising Tide quest markers appear on the world map.

The first of these quest markers has players travel to Northreach to find out more about the letter that Clive received. Upon their arrival there, they'll need to speak with someone called Leyla, who directs them to a coastal campsite just north of town. The campsite in question is deserted when Clive and the party arrive, but inspecting the tent, skiff, and fireplace will trigger an interaction with a new character named Shula and a fairly lengthy cutscene will ensue. Once it ends, players will be able to travel to a new area called Mysidia, which is where the FF16 DLC really gets going.
