However, some recent social media activity has suggested a fan-favorite Final Fantasy title might be making an appearance at the State of Play. Yasumi Matsuno, the director, writer, and lead designer of Final Fantasy Tactics, reposted the State of Play announcement on his personal Twitter, only to later remove it not long after. Were that not suspicious enough, renowned Bloomberg video game journalist Jason Schreier made a post of his own on Bluesky only a few hours later that read “I’m just saying, Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the greatest games ever made,” implying he might have insider knowledge of an impending announcement pertaining to the cult classic.

Final Fantasy Tactics Remake Teased For State of Play

I'm just saying, Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the greatest games ever made — Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-06-03T17:30:57.471Z

Technically, Final Fantasy Tactics has already gotten a “remaster” in the form of War of the Lions, a PSP and mobile port featuring improvements to the original game. That said, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions was far from a full-fledged remake – and even then, it has been nearly 20 years since its launch.

Rumors of a Final Fantasy Tactics remake have been buzzing for years, but they reached a fever pitch after the critical acclaim of Tactics Ogre Reborn in 2022. Also developed by Matsuno, the original Tactics Ogre is another cult classic tactics game that was released a couple of years before Final Fantasy Tactics, and is often considered to be its spiritual predecessor. Many hoped the success of Tactics Ogre Reborn would earn the same remake treatment for Final Fantasy Tactics, and this activity from Matsuno and Schreier has only served to add more fuel to the fire.

That said, it is important to remember this is all speculative; it is just as likely that Matsuno reposted the video game news out of general excitement, and only removed it to prevent gamers from getting the wrong idea. Likewise, Schreier may have simply been expressing his love for Final Fantasy Tactics, and might not know anything about the remake. Even so, there is a chance a Final Fantasy Tactics remake could be announced at the June 4 State of Play, so fans should probably tune in just in case.
