Summary
- Cloud has gone through various costume changes in the Final Fantasy series, with the black dress in FF7 Remake being a standout.
- Cloud can transform into a Moogle and a frog in Final Fantasy side quests, adding humor to the game.
- From noble samurai to goth warrior, Cloud's various garbs in games like Kingdom Hearts and FF7 Ever Crisis showcase his diverse style.
Cloud is one of the most iconic characters in the Final Fantasy series. He’s got his big Buster Sword and spiked blonde hair that makes him look like a hero no one should mess with. His original garb, though, is a bit lackluster. The polygonal model in the game made him look like a purple clown, and the battle model was a bit drab color-wise.
Every Final Fantasy Game Cloud Strife Is Playable In
These are the games in which Final Fantasy's Cloud Strife appears as a fully playable character.
Over time, and in other moments within Final Fantasy 7, Cloud got into better outfits. This includes a plethora of sequels and spinoffs. So, of the many games Cloud has appeared playable and unplayable in, these are his best costumes and forms to date.

Let’s begin with some of the funnier examples, and the original game is a great place to start. In Final Fantasy 7, players could get Cloud in a dress, which changed some story results, but it didn’t look different graphically.
This was changed in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, wherein players could get three styles of dresses. Among the three, the basic black and gray dress looks best on Cloud, as the others are a bit much, like Cloud is trying to be some queen or princess.
7 Moogle (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth)

One of the best side quests in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth involves Cloud helping out some Moogles. If players find every house and catch all of the Moogles, their grand prize for Cloud is to turn him into a Moogle.
Cloud can just say “Kupo,” but it’s still in his monotone voice, which makes it funny and adorable at the same time. Cloud can also turn into a frog for a mini-game, which is also a great moment in the game, but he can’t speak, so he loses some personality in the transition.
6 Bandaged Coat Garb (Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis)
What Is That Eyepatch Doing?
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis
- Released
- September 7, 2023
Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis is a mobile spinoff that is currently attempting to retell the entire Final Fantasy 7 saga. Like most gacha-based free-to-play games, players can unlock special weapons, armor, and outfits called Garbs.
Why Final Fantasy 7's Cloud is the Series' Most Tragic Protagonist
Final Fantasy 7's Cloud is known for many things, but his convoluted backstory is perhaps the most interesting, and tragic, aspect of his character.
The Bandaged Coat Garb for Cloud is equal parts ridiculous and awesome, which makes him look like he belongs in Cyberpunk 2077. His eyepatch has a scope, his blade is glowing, and overall, he just looks ready for the apocalypse.

In the original game, Cloud can wear the basic soldier gear to infiltrate Shinra, and some moments show him in the training gear. It’s all very basic in design, blue, but this was fleshed out more in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7.
This spinoff focused on one of Cloud’s SOLDIER buddies, Zack, and there are moments when a younger Cloud appears in this fit. The outfit is better suited for a basic enemy soldier in an RPG, and it’s cool to see Cloud’s hair be a bit longer to cover his eyes. His personality is more chipper, too, which adds to why this costume is refreshing.
4 Ivalice Fit (Final Fantasy Tactics)
A More Defined Basic Outfit

Final Fantasy Tactics was the first spinoff in which Cloud appeared following Final Fantasy 7. He was a secret character late in the game, and his outfit is technically the same one as the original game. However, every piece is now more defined than it was before, and it does not look like one solid color.
His pants are blue, his shirt is black, his gloves and boots are brown, and his hair is less wild. Whether players admire the rough concept art that hasn’t been archived that well online or his sprite, it’s clear Cloud makes his original outfit look better in the world of Ivalice.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children was the original game’s first sequel, and it was a film. There was a prequel released before it, though, Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7, but it was only released in Japan. Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children may have lacked a cohesive story, but the action was top-notch.
Final Fantasy VII: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Cloud
Cloud Strife is perhaps the most important character in Final Fantasy 7. Here's a look at 10 things you didn't know about him.
Cloud’s all-black attire worked better than his original outfit because it was at least more stylized from his goggles to his lion armlet. His sword also got redesigned to split apart into other swords, which is probably Cloud’s coolest weapon in the entire series, even though the original Buster Sword is more iconic.
2 Murasame Battle Garb (Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis)
A Bushido Master
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis
- Released
- September 7, 2023
The Murasame Battle Garb is another pull from Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis, and it’s the best costume Cloud can get in the game. It substitutes his Buster Sword for two katanas to make him look like a noble samurai.
It’s all black like in Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, so it lacks color, but that’s fine because Cloud makes it work. It would be cool to see Cloud sport a similar outfit in the final remake of Final Fantasy 7, as they will assuredly go to the Japanese-influenced area of Wutai, where Yuffie is from.
1 Olympus Coliseum Fit (Kingdom Hearts)
If Cloud Was Bit By Vincent

Kingdom Hearts is still one of the coolest things to happen to fans in the early 2000s. It gave Final Fantasy characters like Cloud voices for the first time and redesigned them too to make them more unique.
Cloud appeared in Olympus Coliseum, the world based on Hercules, and his costume looked like a cross between his original gear and Vincent, a teammate of Cloud’s. The clawed arm, bandaged sword, cape, and bat wing made Cloud 100% more goth, and fans were there for it.
