Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the most anticipated JRPGs of the last several years, but it's been a PlayStation console exclusive since its debut. The game was initially released on the PlayStation 4 in April 2020, just a few months before the launch of the current-generation consoles. It then received an upgraded version for the PS5 in June 2021 called Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which featured enhanced visuals and an exclusive story expansion that starred Yuffie Kisaragi, one of the party members from the original FF7.
The Intergrade edition of the game was ported to PC via Epic Games Store in December 2021, but it didn't get a Steam release until June 2022.
For a long time, it was assumed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake would remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles until the planned FF7 Remake trilogy was completed. Since Sony signed an exclusivity deal for both this game and its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, this idea didn't seem that unreasonable. As it turns out, however, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is heading to non-PlayStation consoles later this year, before the third game in the trilogy has even been released. The Intergrade version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is not only coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in winter 2025, but it is landing on Xbox Series X/S, as well.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Gets Exciting Update for PS5 Owners
The developers of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 have an exciting update for PlayStation 5 owners regarding the last entry in the trilogy.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Xbox Port Release Date is Still a Mystery
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is Coming to Xbox This Winter
Square Enix confirmed the existence of Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Xbox version during the 2025 Xbox Games Showcase, where it announced it alongside an Xbox Series X/S port shadow drop of Final Fantasy 16. When the game does come to Xbox in 2025, more than five years will have passed since its release on the PlayStation 4 in 2020. That's an incredibly long time to wait for a third-party game like this one to go multi-platform.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Will Probably Come to Xbox in Late 2026
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the latest installment in the FF7 Remake trilogy, is currently only available on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. Even though Final Fantasy 7 Remake is going multi-platform, the game has still not been announced for either Xbox or Nintendo Switch 2. Rumors suggest that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will make its debut on non-PlayStation consoles sometime in 2026, but an exact release window for these alleged ports has not been confirmed. If Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth does actually come to Xbox and Nintendo consoles in 2026, however, its release will probably be a lot later than most expect.
Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake is slated to launch on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 this winter, it's unlikely that Square Enix will release a major Final Fantasy title in that timeframe. Therefore, a potential Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Xbox and/or Switch 2 port in early 2026 seems to be off the cards. Given that Square Enix wasn't willing to reveal Rebirth for Xbox during the Xbox Games Showcase, it wouldn't be surprising if the company made players wait until 2026 to announce these rumored multi-platform ports.
Square Enix is Probably Going to Make Fans Wait a While for FF7 Rebirth to Be Announced for Xbox
The fact that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Xbox and Switch 2 versions are months away from being released suggests that they're probably still early in development. If that is the case, then Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's supposed Xbox and Switch 2 ports may have entered production just a short while ago. Considering the slow pace at which Square Enix is launching these multi-platform Final Fantasy ports, it's possible that Rebirth won't come to other consoles until late 2026.
