According to a recent leak, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will be multiplatform at launch, and the release date of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2 will supposedly be announced on February 5. The Final Fantasy leaks could spell good news for fans eager to hear more news about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga.
The news came after Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade launched on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S, nearly six years after the original PS4 launch of FF7 Remake. Although Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a console-exclusive title for PlayStation consoles, the new ports are part of Square Enix's ongoing strategy to bring its major IPs to different platforms. This shift is also retroactive to other major titles, as Final Fantasy 16 was ported to PC and Xbox Series X/S after its initial PS5 exclusivity window expired. Square Enix has since confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will eventually make its way to the Switch 2 and Xbox consoles.
The OG Final Fantasy 7 Is Being Delisted on Steam, But It's Going to Be Replaced With a New Version With More Features
Square Enix announces that the 2013 version of Final Fantasy 7 on Steam will soon be delisted and replaced by a new port with additional features.
Final Fantasy 7 Fans Are In For A Busy 2026
Although rumors about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga should be taken with a fine grain of salt, a known industry leaker stated that fans will not have to wait too much longer for new information. NateTheHate said during a February 4 podcast that the Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be at the February 5 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and will show off a new trailer with a release date. NateTheHate stated that Square Enix had previously targeted a summer 2026 release window for the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and guessed that the ports could launch sometime in June 2026, during Summer Game Fest.
The new rumors corroborated what Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth game director Naoki Hamaguchi previously said in interviews about the port's progress. Hamaguchi said that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth still needs some polish and optimizations, but said that Square Enix's developers are passionate about getting the port up to standard. Given that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a vast, open-world RPG compared to the more closed setting of Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Midgar, it remains to be seen when FF7 Rebirth will arrive on the Switch 2 and Xbox consoles.
Furthermore, NateTheHate stated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake's long-awaited third chapter will also be a day one launch on all current platforms. Ergo, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will not be a PlayStation exclusive at launch, unlike FF7 Remake and Rebirth. NateTheHate also stated that the game's first official reveal could take place during Summer Game Fest in June, though he did not offer any information beyond that. Although Square Enix has kept a tight lid on the upcoming title, Hamaguchi stated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's full name has been locked in after speaking with creative director Tetsuya Nomura. Hamaguchi added that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is also being developed on a modified version of Unreal Engine 4 for the sake of consistency and familiarity.
What Else Could Square Enix Show During the Partner Showcase?
The Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase will air the same day that Square Enix fully releases Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined on multiple platforms, including the Switch 2. However, other projects like The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales and potential ports of the Kingdom Hearts saga could also appear during the Partner Showcase. Given that the Switch 2 already has several game releases lined up throughout 2026, it remains to be seen what Square Enix will add to the calendar once the February 5 Nintendo Direct goes live.
