Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase said in an interview that the third chapter of the saga would add a new feeling of happiness to players who played the PlayStation release over two decades ago. Though Kitase noted the story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 would not betray the fans of the original release, he acknowledged that the development team had heard players' various theories about what could change and stay the same.

The interview was conducted over six months after the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Set immediately after Avalanche escaped Midgar, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth covered the remaining section of the original game's first disc, from Kalm to the Forgotten Capital. Although Aerith's fate remains a point of debate with Final Fantasy players, the upcoming third part will likely feature other regions from discs two and three of the PlayStation classic, such as Wutai, Rocket Town, and the Northern Crater. While Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth were made in Unreal Engine 4, Square Enix acknowledged that it could jump to Unreal Engine 5 if it suited its needs.

With the third chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga in development, one of the game's leads took time to answer some lingering questions. In an interview with Anime News Network, Kitase said that fans who fear too many deviations from the original Final Fantasy 7 would be made in the upcoming third chapter should not worry. Kitase said that the development team kept the original game's story in mind throughout the new saga, and reiterated that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 would not betray fans of the 1997 classic. Kitase also acknowledged that 27 years had passed between the original Final Fantasy 7 and the release of Rebirth, and hoped longtime fans would be satisfied with the trilogy's upcoming finale.
