Square Enix recently had some surprising news to share about Final Fantasy 7 Remake. During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct in early April, a segment showed that the game's enhanced and expanded version, FF7 Remake Intergrade, would be coming to the next-generation console. The move is unexpected, but a great sign for Final Fantasy moving forward. This precedent means Nintendo and Square Enix might cross paths again soon.

Given the console's better hardware, it is a logical move for Final Fantasy to find more of a home on Nintendo consoles again. As Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade prepares to head towards the Switch 2, one wonders what other games Square Enix might consider porting. Since the Switch 2 can house such a graphically impressive title, there's no reason for it not to have other similarly heavy Final Fantasy entries. This is something that the next-generation console can do that its predecessor simply couldn't.

What Other Final Fantasy Games Can Be Put Into the Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2 including Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade in its game library is great news, but it shouldn't be the only entry from the franchise that the console features. Should more FF games with similar graphical and gameplay intensity eventually make their way to the system, there are a few ideal candidates:

  • Final Fantasy 15 would be a good addition and a way to make it up to fans of the original Nintendo Switch, as the previous console only allowed fans to play the pocket edition of FF15
  • Nintendo and Square Enix could work on putting Final Fantasy 16 onto the next-generation console, which would be a logical move given that it's the most recent mainline entry
  • If properly optimized, the Switch 2 could run Final Fantasy 14, allowing Nintendo fans to play the franchise's massive MMORPG entry, perhaps with the help of Joy-Con 2 mouse controls

Among all the games in the Final Fantasy series, these have a better chance of helping Square Enix and Nintendo attain more success if added to the Nintendo Switch 2. Hopefully, they end up getting the same treatment as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, but only time will tell if it will happen.

Why the Nintendo Switch 2 is Great for More Final Fantasy Games

Should the upcoming console ever get more ports of Final Fantasy entries, it would be a great show of confidence from both Nintendo and Square Enix. More games for the Nintendo Switch 2 that are similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will allow the company to show that the system has a decent library, and has strong enough hardware to support other games that are just as demanding and impressive. Also, with the addition of being able to play other such Final Fantasy games on the go, the next-generation console ports may end up being some fans' preferred version, breathing new live into already-beloved games.

Given the benefits, the possibility of the Nintendo Switch 2 eventually getting the Final Fantasy franchise's other recent graphically-intensive entries in the future seems plausible. The console, the fans, and the companies involved all stand to gain from the move, making the effort towards having it happen worthwhile.
