Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 needs to be big and memorable as the epic conclusion to the trilogy.
  • Introducing more playable characters in Part 3 could overshadow some existing party members.
  • Implementing split-party segments like in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could give each character time to shine.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has a tall task ahead of it after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, both in tying up the trilogy without venturing too far from the original story and somehow at least meeting the high bar set by its predecessor. Both parts of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy released thus far have proven Square Enix knows what it's doing when it comes to remakes, especially in its willingness to adapt to the expectations and interests of modern audiences. However, with the third part of the trilogy being the epic conclusion to Final Fantasy 7's story, it will need to be big, and it will need to be memorable.

Thankfully, the finale of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is already set up for success, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth having paved the way in its introduction of semi-open-world areas and more beloved Final Fantasy 7 characters for players to control during combat. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will also be introducing even more playable characters to the roster, and while that is undoubtedly one of its more anticipated features, the nearly overwhelming number of party members could cause some to get overshadowed by others. However, if Part 3 were to implement one simple trick of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it could avoid that problem altogether.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Should Have Plenty of Split-party Segments

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Have Even More Playable Characters

Heading into Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are six playable characters — Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, Red XIII, Cait Sith, and Yuffie. With Cid and Vincent joining the party as playable characters in the next installment, it could lead to some party members getting overshadowed by others. After all, it is fairly easy in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to find one party setup that works well on a universal level and stick with it. However, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could borrow Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's strategy of occasionally splitting up the party for a brief sequence to give each character some time in the spotlight and essentially force players to use them.

Split-party Segments in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Would Help Give Each Character the Spotlight

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, players are occasionally forced into a corner and have no choice but to play as certain characters or to have a specific party setup throughout the story. In some cases, like when Barrett battles Dyne, players are even required to fight challenging bosses with a specific character, even if they haven't played with that character much before or haven't equipped them with the best gear available. While some players might cringe at the thought of their freedom being taken away from them in a game like this, it ultimately benefits the whole, as players get the full Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth experience by having to learn each character's strengths and weaknesses firsthand.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 should adopt this strategy, especially since there are even more characters being added to the playable roster. There will also most likely be a lengthy moment when Cloud is separate from the rest of the group, which would justify playing as another character anyway. However, the mere fact that the party only continues to grow in Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy means that split-party segments would help diversify the gameplay experience for players, as well as force them to familiarize themselves with other characters that could benefit them in the long run. It seems likely that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 will go in this direction, but it's worth mentioning, as it's one of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's best features.
