Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game, from the size of its open-world areas to the depths of its various mechanics. There is a lot to keep track of in the game and remember, which means there are also plenty of opportunities to forget. In light of that, there are several unwritten rules for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players should know before they hop on the back of their Chocobo and make for the end of the map.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's unwritten rules can be categorized according to its exploration and combat, as the game spends an adequate amount of time on both of those aspects. While there are tutorials for just about everything in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are still a few things worth noting.
One Final Fantasy 7 Character Could Carry Their Own Remaster Collection
Although the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga is not finished, remaking another character's tale is one way to give new players the full picture.
The Unwritten Rules of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Combat
Enemies Should Be Pressured and Staggered as Often as Possible
Players will spend a significant amount of time in combat in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, so they will need to learn the ins and outs of its Pressure and Stagger system if they hope to succeed. Like its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth encourages players to first Pressure their enemies by exploiting their weaknesses. These weaknesses can be identified using the Assess Materia and then noting the yellow text on the left of the screen. Generally, Pressuring an enemy involves exploiting their elemental weakness, but it is sometimes more specific. Once an enemy's Pressure gauge has been filled, they can then be Staggered much quicker.
Synergy Abilities Can Turn the Tide of Battle
One of the new combat mechanics introduced in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is Synergy Abilities, which see two characters combining their attacks for one powerful move against the enemy. To trigger Synergy Abilities, players must first build up the Synergy of Cloud and another party member by using abilities that have a special dual rectangle icon to the left of their description. Once both characters have built up enough Synergy, they can perform powerful Synergy Abilities that often change the tide of battle with the benefits they provide.
The Unwritten Rules of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Exploration
Every Region Has a Special Traversal Feature That Should Be Unlocked as Soon as Possible
Every open-world region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is massive, to the point that attempting to get around each one on foot will significantly lengthen play time and could potentially lead to burnout. Fortunately, every one of these regions has a special traversal ability that should be unlocked as soon as possible. Some regions have Chocobo for players to ride, while others have more unique traversal methods, like the Buggy in Corel, for example. To ensure they unlock these traversal abilities as soon as possible, players only need to progress the main story until they do so.
Remnawave Towers Are Essential to Picking Regions Clean
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth borrows a lot of concepts from other games, and that includes the mechanics involved in its Remnawave Towers. Similarly to Far Cry's Radio Towers or Assassin's Creed's Viewpoints, players can activate Remnawave Towers in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to reveal portions of the map, as well as any activities and intel that can be found in the revealed area.
Revisiting the Item Transmuter Often Is the Best Use of Resources
The Item Transmuter is another new feature in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, acting as a portable crafting system for items of all kinds. As players explore the game's open-world areas, they will come across various resources — from plants to minerals — to harvest for use in their Item Transmuter. When an item is crafted for the first time in the Item Transmuter, players gain experience towards their Craftsmanship level and can craft new items as they level up. As such, the Item Transmuter should be used to craft new items as often as possible.
