Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has just been officially given a June 3, 2026 release date for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. This announcement initially came during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, with Xbox then confirming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's June release date for its own platforms an hour later.
The middle part of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth first hit PlayStation 5 in February 2024. Upon its debut, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was met with universal critical acclaim, earning a 92 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic with 97% of critics recommending it. 11 months after launch, FF7 Rebirth came to PC, where it received another round of heavy praise. Now, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has set its sights on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox.
Final Fantasy Leaks Reveal Big Plans for FF7 Remake Part 3, Rebirth Switch 2 Port
A gaming industry insider shares potential good news about Final Fantasy 7 Remake's third part, and the upcoming Switch 2 port of FF7 Rebirth.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Launches on June 3 for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox
During the latest Nintendo Direct, Square Enix confirmed a June 3, 2026 release date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2. Soon after, FF7 Rebirth appeared on the Xbox store, featuring the same June 3 release date. Pre-orders for FF7 Rebirth are live now on the Xbox store, with Nintendo eShop pre-orders expected to go live in the next few hours. Pre-ordering FF7 Rebirth will grant players two in-game Summoning Materias and two armor pieces.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Nintendo Direct trailer acts as a very brief introduction to the sequel's story and gameplay, giving newcomers a look at its new side activities, active combat, and the game's various forms of open-world traversal. Based solely on the footage shown during the Nintendo Direct – which isn't always 100% representative of the final product – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth seems to be running very well on Switch 2, with few compromises being made in terms of frame rate or graphical fidelity.
While fans will need to wait to see for themselves how FF7 Rebirth performs on Nintendo Switch 2, Square Enix's last few Switch 2 ports have all received praise for being well-optimized. Just two weeks ago, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade came to Nintendo Switch 2, and the general consensus among critics is that it's a very faithful port with few technical shortcomings. Digital Foundry's Oliver Mackenzie wrote that FF7 Remake Intergrade on Switch 2 is "essentially the PS5 Intergrade version but running with visual settings closer to PS4." Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is technically a more demanding game than FF7 Remake due to its open-world nature, but it seems that Square Enix is confident in its ability to run on Switch 2.
Though they're likely not quite as demanding as FF7 Remake or Rebirth, Square Enix has also delivered Nintendo Switch 2 editions of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake, and Octopath Traveler 0. Generally speaking, all of these Switch 2 Square Enix games have reviewed well, with their performance on Nintendo's hybrid console frequently being a point of praise among critics.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth wasn't the only Square Enix-developed game to appear during the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. Near the start of the presentation, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales received a gameplay trailer. First announced during a July 2025 Nintendo Direct, The Adventures of Elliot is an upcoming action-RPG being led by Tomoya Asano, a Square veteran who's worked on Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Live a Live. The Adventures of Elliot was given a June 18, 2026 release date during the Nintendo Direct, making June a particularly busy one for Square Enix.
