Following the February 6 State of Play broadcast, Square Enix stated that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would receive a second demo days before the game's full release. The company also said that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth fans looking to experience the second demo for themselves would need to complete the first one beforehand.
During the January 31 State of Play, which showed off titles such as Stellar Blade and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Sony and Square Enix said that fans looking for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth news would have to wait until February 6 for an update. On that day, Sony released a dedicated State of Play broadcast focused solely on it. The February 6 State of Play showed some of the features coming to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, such as party levels, returning mini-games such as Chocobo Racing, and a sense of how big the game's world is. At the end of the broadcast, creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that a demo of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would launch that same day.
How Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Devs Decided Which Scenes to Change
During a recent interview with The Best War Games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi outlines the criteria for key scene changes.
But, the February 6 demo will not be the only one for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. On social media, game director Naoki Hamaguchi reminded players who missed the February 6 State of Play that a second demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would launch on February 21 as a free update to the current demo, which allows players to experience the infamous "Nibelheim flashback" set five years before the game. However, Hamaguchi said that completing the Nibelheim flashback will be required for players to start the second demo. Hamaguchi stated that the second demo will not have progress to carry over, but it will take players to a condensed version of the Junon area. Between combat, mini-games, and story elements, it remains to be seen what the Junon demo will cover.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Second Demo Details
- Launches February 21 as a free update to the current demo
- Covers a condensed version of the Junon area
- Requires completing the first demo
In the Nibelheim flashback demo, Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth climb the perilous Mt. Nibel and investigate a faulty Mako reactor built near the village of Nibelheim. The demo serves as a gameplay and combat tutorial for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and shares some pivotal plot points that show Sephiroth's descent to madness following discoveries made at the Mako reactor. Both the flashback and the demo end with Sephiroth's iconic burning of Nibelheim.
As one of the most anticipated titles of 2024, it is no surprise that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a massive game in both scope and content. Only time will tell how the story's events will play out compared to the original Final Fantasy 7.
