Summary
- The original Final Fantasy 7 director is open to a movie adaptation of the game.
- Despite past Final Fantasy movie failures, people in Hollywood are interested in the Final Fantasy 7 IP.
The original Final Fantasy 7 director, Yoshinori Kitase, commented about the possibility of a movie adaptation of the game, saying he would “love” the idea. This could be good news for Final Fantasy 7 fans, considering the controversial track record the franchise has regarding movies.
Many fans believe that Final Fantasy 7 is among the best games in the JRPG series. Its characters, plot, and situations have become legendary in pop culture, and its appeal has persisted over time. With the release of the Final Fantasy 7 remake in 2020, the game managed to cater not only to long-term fans but also to a newer and younger audience. The game's (and the franchise's) fame has spread beyond video games to the film industry, but, unlike the games, the Final Fantasy movies have not been as successful. However, the original FF7 director is still open to seeing the game hit the big screen.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's Airship Needs to Be More than Just Transportation
Given that the ship will be important anyway, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could redefine airship mechanics, blending nostalgia with innovation.
Speaking on Danny Peña’s YouTube channel, Yoshinori Kitase said there is nothing officially planned for a movie adaptation of the successful Final Fantasy 7. Although this might initially sound like bad news, Kitase added that he knows many Hollywood directors and actors who are fans of Final Fantasy 7 and respect the title. Adding to this, Kitase mentioned he is aware of many creators who would be very interested in the Final Fantasy 7 intellectual property, which means players could eventually see the Avalanche group on the big screen.
Original Final Fantasy 7 Director Would 'Love' a Movie Adaptation
In addition to filmmakers interested in the popular JRPG IP, Yoshinori Kitase himself showed interest in the idea of a movie for the game, saying he would love it. Kitase noted that this could mean either a cinematic adaptation or even “some kind of visual piece.” Even though nothing is confirmed yet, it is a good sign that both the original director and creators in Hollywood are showing interest in a Final Fantasy 7 movie.
It is true that Final Fantasy’s movie track record is not as notable as its games. The franchise's initial foray into the motion picture business was a failure. However, Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children, which debuted in 2005, is regarded as a solid film with strong action sequences and impressive visuals. Despite Final Fantasy's film past, fans may be excited by the prospect of a fresh adaptation that follows Cloud and his friends' adventures against Shinra.

Mako—the discovery of this natural resource drawn directly from the planet’s life force marked the dawn of a new era, and now the energy sustains the lives of people across the world. However, the Shinra Company has monopolized mako production, and in doing so established a powerful hegemony--its influence reaching the far corners of the globe.
Cloud, a former member of Shinra's military organization, SOLDIER, joins the anti-Shinra resistance group AVALANCHE, despite caring little for their motives. During one of the group’s attempts to stop the company, they learn of the return of Sephiroth, Cloud’s nemesis, and that with his reemergence, the planet is in greater danger than anyone had expected.
With the fate of the world riding on their success, Cloud and his allies set out to quell this deadly threat.
